My friend's brother just got a 3G iPhone from Hong Kong, it should be a factory unlocked unit, phone is working fine for calling and text.
the problem is he can't get a 3G connection, everytime he tries to connect he will be warned that he is not subscribed to a data plan.

is it possible to locked the 3G connection since the phone is a factory unlocked unit? anyone know how to unlocked?

Unlocked just means that you can use any SIM from around the world. It doesn't mean that you are going to get free data. You have to add a data plan on if you want that. AT&T's 3G data plan is $30 a month. T-Mobiles is less but it will not work with 3G because the iPhone doesn't have the right hardware to support their 3G network. If he's with T-Mobile and has a data plan, he'll have to turn 3G off and use Egde.
