The Family Pack is a real bargain, even with only 2 systems. It gets even better if you have 3 or more.

I just bought my very first Apple computer, the MacBook Pro 15 inch 2.66 Ghz for $1799, no tax and free shipping.
I will order the $9.95 Snow Leopard. I can't wait. I'm kinda teary eyed, excuse me!
Arrrggghhhh, I feel so jealous seeing you guys order. My bank lost my Credit Card in the mail. I'll have to go to the Apple Store on Friday and get it. :(

Personally, I'm not too excited for Snow Leopard.
Maybe I haven't payed enough attention to it...

My guess is a lot of people will be disappointed due to the lack of bells and whistles that leopard was loaded with. I think the benefit of snow leopard will come when developers get used to using Open CL for multi-threaded programming. THEN we should see a lot less of the beachball.

I really don't have a beach ball complaint, I don't get it a lot either. But very excited about tomorrow. $49 for my macbook and imac was great!! Fed Ex is holding my package for delivery at facility until tomorrow :(
why can't they just make us happy and deliver it early!

What really surprised me is I now have an extra 20GB of HDD space! I heard reports of about 7GB being the norm, but damn.

I never checked to see how much HDD space I got back, but I noticed the obvious, i.e black popup for dock icons, new quick time, ect... and I noticed my screen color settings defaulted differently and thats apparently due to the default gamma being upped from 1.8 to 2.2. Other than that, all seems to be working well.

hey guys do i have to erase my HDD or can i have all the same stuff without backing up and install the new OS?

My macbook has been shutting down in about 5 seconds with normal leopard, but after installing SL, its about 3 seconds. I'm sure once developers start updating to 64 bit, this baby is gonna fly. I timed all all the core apps (opening them) and they are all about 25-50% faster when opening for the first time after booting (except itunes lol).

Does anyone know why the amount of space it frees varies so much? I know it calculates it different so a before and after isn't really an accurate representation, but I haven't heard of anyone that had less space freed than me. I had less than 2 GB freed.
Does it have anything to do with disk cleanup? I run Applejack at least once a month to keep it tip top.

Hmm... From what I understand SL not only shrinks system files down, but it also erases a lot of unnecessary junk in application packages - stuff that Leopard doesn't even need. So I guess it's possible that if you used a 3rd party file optimizer in Leopard, you may have had this partially done already.

MS Word is one of the programs that still needs to be updated to work properly with SL.

Wow, I installed Snow Leopard last night and how easy that was. I'm so use to going through all the setup steps with Windows installations. I had 277 GB of hard drive space on MacBook Pro before installation and after Snow Leopard installation I had 304 GB. What amazed me was the shut down time. I clocked it at 3 seconds. Unbelievable. I love it!!!

My guess is that you already cleaned out a lot of junk with Applejack and the only thing SL removed was the PPC support and printer drivers.
