Well heres the thing.... I wanted upgrade my 8GB Black 3G to a white 32GB 3Gs from my Australian telco and they said that they have no stock and have no plans to get more stock!? Are they crazy! Maybe a hardware problem with the iPhones? Optus is not the only provider in Australia but it is the one that most people choose because it is the cheapest, has good customer service - they have their own iPhone specialist team and the best call quality. They make a lot of their money from the iPhone and I don't see them cancelling the iPhone but I think Apple has a problem... What the heck is happening?

I think something could be going on.
If you check out Apple's site (http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone?mco=MTE2OTU), 3GS' aren't shipping for 5-7 business days.

I think in general there is just a shortage as demand has outstripped supply.

I think it's definitely going to be in September. Along with the iTablet.

Seriously though, that is odd for them to say.

This is probably the reason for the September announcement from Apple.
Everyone has to turn in their iPhones and pay $300 for the new iPhone. j/k

The announcement will most likely be for the new 3.1 firmware, and also any new Apple hardware being released, such as the speculated iTablet.

If we are lucky, us 3G owners might actually get a little more functionality with the new firmware. Unlikely, but at this point would be nice.

Ok good.. Also I'm not sure if you guys can answer this but is it allowable for me to sell my iPhone? Also is it possible to change the owners name of the iPhone once I sell it? i.e my name is iPhoneMonster and that's the name of the person apple has listed down. Once I sell it the CookieMonster (let's keep it interesting instead of 'John' - he's been overused...) buys my iPhone can I make it so that when he calls apple it has CookieMonster listed?

Thanks guys... Hopefully I'll be getting my 32 gigger soon :)

Yeah I think there is just a general shortage from them as O2 in the UK havent had them in stock for a few weeks now and everytime they do get them in stock they sell out within a day or two. Also since launch on the UK apple site it has always been 5 days before they dispatch it from there wearhouse

Are you talking about the name of the phone that you see when you connect it via iTunes?

Why would Apple have iPhoneMonster, anywhere in their records, as the owner of that phone? You can name your phone anything you'd like to in iTunes but the only way Apple sees that name is if you hand them the phone and they hook it up to iTunes. I don't believe that name is "listed" anywhere.

I'm not sure if you are talking about the name you give the iPhone when you set it up or your Apple account name. Switching to a new phone will not change your Apple account name/info. You'll put your account info in the new phone so you can buy Apps etc. You need to restore the old phone to factory settings in iTunes before selling it. At that point, the phone won't have a name. They buyer will set it up and give it a name, such as John's iPhone. But that name is not what Apple has. They have his Apple account name. He will have to put that account and password in the phone if he wants to make App purchases etc.

For the warranty... When you talk to them about your iphone they always ask your serial number. It's how they know it's your phone. When I use the names 'iPhoneMonster' i'm just replacing that as a name... My name is Tushar. Sorry for the confusion. I just wanted to know if I can change that name that appears on their computers to the person I sell the iPhone to.

I'm still confused...
Anyway, when you sell it, restore it in iTunes and name it "iPhone 3G". The buyer can change the name to whatever they want.

The CookieMonster would just sell the iPhone to get boxes and boxes of cookies. I just don't buy your scenario. :dft011:wicked_smile

What do you mean lol?

What I am saying is that Apple keeps your information such as your name and address according to your iPhone serial number. They get this information as soon as you buy your iPhone. I would like to be able to change this information to my buyers information when I sell my iPhone.

Hope that makes sense :)

Yes, when the buyer logs into itunes with the phone attached a new name would be created.

But that is for the phones name. It's ok. Also, will apple get annoyed if I sell my iPhone?

Oh yes indeed. Just sincerely apologize, maybe send a dozen roses to Cupertino, and it should be fine.

As for the name on file with Apple, don't worry about it. They care about the phone, more than who is in possession of if. The warranty will still be in effect.

You are not tied to that serial number for life. When you sell the phone, the serial number now belongs to someone else. To use it they have to activate it, and the serial number is associated with that activation. No worries. Just be sure to restore the phone to factory settings before selling it so they don't have access to any of your data.

No.
They want you to sell your phone every year and update to a new one.
