Periodically, my 3g iphone will just turn off. The only way to turn it back on is to connect it either to a USB connection or power charger. Everything is retained except the date and time are reset to 6:00PM December 31, 1999.

It is jailbroken using redsn0w and ultrasn0w for use on T-Mobile. It has 3.01 software. There's no rhyme or reason. It can go for days or turn off every day. One particular time I did get a temperature warning telling me the phone needed to cool down before use.

I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Any possible fixes?

Sounds like your battery is going to me. Perhaps it has a loose connection inside, which is causing the phone to short out occasionally. I think the temp warning was coincidental.

Is there a way to fix this myself? I don't a warranty, so voiding it wouldn't matter. A new battery from ebay or something?
