Att Threat?

Well Recently I got a text from AT&T saying that they know that my phone was a smart phone, and also that I did not have a data plan. They wanted me to call them. What do i do? I have a iPhone(First Gen) that is Jailbroken. Leave it alone or call them. If i call them, what do i say?

I don't know if there is much that you can do. If you don't call them, they'll probably add the data plan on anyway. I would add the data plan or switch to T-Mobile if you really don't want to pay for data.

Let me get this straight. I assume you took a sim card from a standard GSM phone and put it into the 1st gen iPhone. If that is the case, all they want you to do is modify your plan so that they can charge you $20/month for the data. Call them, they won't bite. BUT,,, if you don't call, they may charge you a la carte for the data and that can add up to some serious bucks!!!! I too received a similar text when I switched out my sim card from a original iPhone to the 3G. I went online (after their threatening text) and updated my plan for the extra ten bucks a month.

The phone sends information out to the carrier letting them know what phone you are using. If they find an iPhone on AT&T with no data plan, they send out that text or just add one on.

I've been using a GoPhone sim in my 3G and/or original iPhone for months now and have not gotten a sms message from AT&T warning me. I have never heard of AT&T ever adding on a data plan if you didn't have one. All they do is send those sms messages hoping that will scare you into getting a data plan. Ignore the messages.

I am also using a ist generation iPhone plan in my 3GS and have never gotten a warning. Been that way with the 3G as well.

Ok show me one post on any forum where AT&T went and added on a data plan to someone who was using another GSM sim in an iPhone without a data plan?

I keep asking people who make these claims to give me proof and they can't.

Ok, they aren't going to send you those texts if you are using a GoPhone. Maybe they don't actually add it on (IDK), but I don't think they will disable it if you already have it and they see that you are using an iPhone. And if they don't disable it and you don't have an unlimited data plan, you can incur huge charges.

Yes, the GoPhone plan doesn't really apply here but you have to stop saying that AT&T will add the plan onto the OPs phone plan when there is no evidence that AT&T will actually do this beyond sending an SMS saying they will.
