App to allow location services while in sleep mode?

I want the TomTom app to run with the screen off so I can just follow the voice instructions and not waste battery with the screen being on. Problem is, with the screen off, location services are also turned off so TomTom gives up. Anyway to keep location services on while the screen is off?

Have you ever thought of turning your screen brightness right down?

That's a possible alternative, the brightness won't go all the way down though.
