I have jailbreak several iPhones and iTouches in the past but I just can't jailbreak my own 3G 3.0.1 for some reason. I'm using the latest redsn0w with the 3.0 IPSW and my phone either goes white or black or doesn't reboot at all after DFU mode.

I have tried the unpluging and replugging usb but that doesn't work either

Any ideas?

I was advised in another post to quickly remove and re-insert the USB cable v.quickly.

It worked for me. I suffered the same problems, I was selecting the correct .ipsw file and I was gettin no where.

Just plug the phone in and out quickly (whilst redsn0w is running) and you should be fine.

Strangely enough, that advice I gave you didn't work for me when I had the same trouble...:dft006:unhappy

So what is the solution, then? I've tried several times now to Retore and reJB/Unlock (using redsn0w 0.8) my original iPhone on 3.0.1 but no success. My first time that the process has failed. It wouldn't reboot. Then i saw this thread and tried the unplug-replug method - two attempts - but no success.
So has anyone found a solution? Please? (I'm doing this with my ONLY phone so without it until find a solution.)
Many thanks.

When you put it in DFU mode. Your phone obviously wont work.

Press the power button and you will get a white screen (well I did anyway). When the white screen comes on. Un-plug the USB cable. Press and hold the power button until the phone turns off again. Then plug the USB cable in- Do it quickly in and out.

This did work for me. It's a strange unfamiliar process I know, but it did work.

Any feedback you can offer if this works, could help others in future.

Do it quickly in and out.

There's another door I won't go through. :dft010:smiling

I too felt slightly uneasy (to say the least) about experimenting through the redsn0w process (being no tech wizard myself, unlike you folks seem to be), but I REEEEEALLY needed my phone back in use for business so (under the influence of sheer desperation) I proceeded...
1. Did Restore using iTunes and 3.0.1 ipsw I'd downloaded.
2. Launched redsn0w and navigated to the ipsw (3.0)... then both bl files
3. Turned the phone off.
4. Clicked redsn0w on to the DFU mode sequence, through step 1, then step 2, then step 3 for DFU (holding down only the Home button here)...
5. During step 3 - in this DFU phase it says it's 'Waiting for restart...' for the SECOND time - I immediately took my finger off the Home button, quickly unplugged the cable and replugged it (screen was black) and immediately touched the Home button at which point the screen goes white for second then the whole process proceeds correctly.
6. The iPhone went into the usual restart perfectly and is now having all its data reinstated.

The only reason I've described all of this sequence as thoroughly and carefully as I have is because, having tried SO MANY times unsuccessfully, I figured that the stage at which the unplug/replug happens is critical to the process working. Anyway, I'll soon find out if it is consistently successful - I've got to redsn0w one more iPhone this way - my wife's. But then I'll be waiting for a hopefully-more-accurate solution to cover off this issue, at least on 2G iPhones.

Anyway, best of luck to anyone trying this slightly hokey 'solution'. I hope it helps someone.

In case anyone finds this thread and has the same problem happening... I have since redsn0wed the second iPhone exactly as above and it worked 100% fine. Strange but true.

Ugh. Attempted the jailbreak on both my Mac (10.5.8) and on Windows XP to no avail. Darn.

Having seem issue, plus do a resore on Iphone 3g, it just goes back to connect to Itunes. It starts the restore process, goes through preparing iphone for restore, turns off, gets the apple, the bar, then fails. I get error code 28, any idea why or what to do? Can I use redsn)w to get it out of that/this mood. I've been trying things to no avail, any help would be appreciated. Oh, the phone is deactivated, and has no sims card, could that be the reason?
