So, I am new at this and have a few Questions about 2g and 3.0.1.

Hi! I wanted to know if anyone had some info or guides on Jailbroken/Unlocked iPhone 2g's running 3.0.1.

Some of my questions are:
1. What are the main differences between the firmwares? (benifits and fallbacks) Should I downgrade? If so how?

2. What is SSH, Customize and installer and does it work on 3.0.1? If so where can I find it?

3.Where can I maybe find some guides to learn about 2g Jailbroken/Unlocked iPhones so I can teach myself how to tinker :)

I just upgraded from 1.1.4 to 3.0.1 yesterday... The difference is just mind boggling. Although the hardware on the 2G may not let us boast about improved speeds, I did not find it slow or anything. The addition of the AppStore has just opened up the gates to an insanely huge array of apps. Couple that with cydia and its just raining apps for all your needs.

SSH gives you the ability to intrude the iPhone's directory and lets you play around with files(helpful for putting in themes). Unfortunately Installer and Customise dont work on 3.0.1. But both of them have substitutes which work very well. Icy is the new installer and Cydia also works in a similar manner. Winterboard replaces Customise and works just as effectively.

Personally, I do not regret upgrading at all.. Its very usable and made me fall in love with my iPhone all over again.. I would definitely give you the thumbs up.

I will look in to those guides. It just seemed liked when I looked up ways to add different sounds or add my own themes that SSH, Customize and Installer where all the things I needed.

Another question. Does Cydia seem to crash a lot or freeze? I have been looking through Cydia and seems like every other time while I am browsing, my phone reboots! Is this normal?

I dont think that normal... I haven't experienced any crashes as yet... What firmware are you on??

Im running 3.0.1...:( Ill be looking at installing something on Cydia and them the screen will freeze up and my iPhone will show the silver apple sign and reboot

I dont understand why that might be... All I can suggest is to try reinstalling everything again... Follow those guides and it probably should be fine...
