can you guys post up what usage times you guys are getting WITHOUT listening to music through earphones if possible, this is prolly the reason why some people are reporting 10+ hours of battery life on other threads. I can't post my time up since my usage stats don't work, but i think i get around 4 hours of heavy use, WITHOUT LISTENING TO MUSIC.

the most i have used of just talk/internet was the other day my usage was 3 1/2 hours and like 8 standby and i had like 60-65% battery left. my usage stats have been working... until now i think lol i just looked at my usage stats and it says 17 hours and 1 day 8 hours standby lol something is messing up.
FWIW one of the blog sites that bought quite a number of iPods noticed that while some had apparent problems with the battery display, in actuality they lasted just as long as the ones without perceived battery issues.
I've noticed that the battery display can jump around quite a bit from computer to wall wart.

That's been my experience. While my phone doesn't properly report a full charge, I'm pretty sure I'm getting one.
I can't give usage stats since mine don't work...
I took it off the dock this morning around 9ish.
Text messaged for maybe an hours worth. Read online news (EDGE) for another hour. Entered some calendar events. Checked e-mail once. Checked weather once. Connected to Bluetooth for an hour (in the car, but no calls). Received a few reminders from the calendar throughout the day. I wouldn't call it a "heavy" day at all.
Now, at 11:15ish pm I've got about 60% battery remaining.
Not to mention it's hard to go a couple of days without syncing and throwing off the count.

I've been able to stay pretty restrained from syncing all the time... I have a harder time not compulsively wanted to charge even if I have more than 50% battery life left... LOL .. Its OCD - obsessive charging disorder ;)
But all is good... I feel like as long as I can get through a whole day, I'm happy... And I've been able to get through 2!

The problem I have is with daily podcasts. If I want to stay current, I have to sync everyday.

I don't think I'll ever have days anymore where I don't check email regularly on my phone. I'm getting about three days tops right now.

I have 4 hours usage and 4 1/2 hours standby... my battery is at 85% full... I didn't listen to any music, just checked mail, took a few calls, browsed the internet for about 10 minutes, and watched 2 movies

The problem with everyone reporting their usage stats is that the battery life depends on HOW that usage time was spent. Five hours watching videos is going to drain the battery more than five hours listening to music. We really should be reporting the type of usage we are doing for this to make any kind of sense.

I have 3.5 hours of use (this is a mix of about 1 hour phone, 2 hours on Edge (Safari), frequent stock and weather updates, time to lock time set to 5 minutes, 5 text messages, 1 demo of the map feature to a co-worker, 2 routes in map), and 1 day 7 hours standby.

Usage: 6 hours 25 minutes.
Standby: 12 hours, 20 minutes.
Still have about 30% left, no red battery yet.
Lets see... I listened to music for about 10 minutes, watched 2 episodes of Family Guy, went on the internet a lot (wifi), some on EDGE (when I was at the pool), then texting ALL day.
Pretty good, I think. :laugh2:

I'm happy with my battery usage. I think the most I had was 9 hours of use (i'd say 2-3 hours of that was music) and the rest was internet and some talk( I use the net way more than I talk) The problem I've noticed is when I hit 20% it drops rapidly if I'm using the phone. I'll go from 20 to 10 in about 10 mins.
ps - I keep my wifi off unless I'm at home and bluetooth is always off. The screen brightness at the lowest setting and usually sound is off unless I forget to turn it off.

Today I'm at 2 hours usage (1 hour of phone calls spread throughout the day... 30 continuous minutes of EDGE getting turn by turn directions on the maps app... and the rest of the 30 minutes showing friends some videos, checking my mail, and sending a couple texts) and I have 11 hours standby... my battery is nearly full at 95%, it only went down one notch on the meter.
I changed my setting today after I got a full charge.. I set the wifi off and the Ask to Join Networks off (somebody in this forum said that if you leave this setting on, it continuously searches for a wifi network to join and that eats up the battery).. I set the brightness at 10%.. it's pretty dim but I think all these settings helped conserve my battery.

I spent the entire first day playing around with my iPhone. My battery lasted 12 hours, not sure if this is good. I charged it up overnight after letting it drain down and shut off completely, as you should with anything thing. I did have it set to go to sleep from time to time which it did when I had to pull myself away from the darn little thang.

So you're claiming your phone has a battery usage life of around 16 hours?
Mine is pretty close to what apple's stats claim.

It ended around 13 hours the other night. I did a bit of everything except Wi-Fi. I can take a picture if you don't believe me.
I think there is something to be said for the advice to Restore the iPhone. I performed a Restore and waited as iTunes downloaded a 92Mb firmware file from Apple.
Despite the firmware having the same number, the battery performance of the iPhone does seem to have changed for the better. I'm at only 1 hour usage, with 9 hours on standby but... the battery is still showing a complete charge since I topped it off this morning. Previously the small battery icon would have shown some depletion much earlier than now.
A word of warning, be sure to sync your information and double check that any new info has indeed been added back to your computer. To guard against any mistakes, save a backup of your computer data as well.
A Restore will wipe out any notes, widget, Bluetooth and WiFi settings you may have on the iPhone. As well as any bookmarks or any other information that you don't normally sync. Expect to spend a little time, tweaking it back to the way it was before.

If anybody has concerns about battery life try these settings to do a control test..
-Turn brightness to 30%
-Turn off wifi unless you need it (use EDGE as much as possible)
-Always lock when not in use
-Turn ringer down
If you follow these simple guidelines you will be AMAZED at how your battery life will improve...
If anybody has concerns about battery life try these settings to do a control test..
Also...
Turn off Bluetooth if not needed
If you do use WiFi, turn off the option to "Ask to join other networks"
Set your email fetch interval to manual or every hour.
Turn off the option to both vibrate and ring simultaneously (have it ring without an accompanying vibration)
Set your auto lock interval to 1 minute
