And /me hangs his head in shame. This belongs in the "what the fudge" thread perhaps, but...

That is all. :(

I am sorry for you and your fellow Phillidelphians. Personally, I wouldn't buy a burger from that man if all he could get was a job at Mickie D's.
The fact that any NFL team was willing to sign him is a testament to just how corrupt the world is. My personal opinion is that he needs to be placed in a pit covered in raw meat and have a team of pitbulls unleashed on him.

Everyone is shocked that someone signed him, but at the end of the day, it's about money and wins.

Now for the Eagles to go and get him, that's just "WTF"

I would expect some of the non contenders signing him. I'm actually happy Vick was signed by the Eagles... I'm a Giants fan. Lol.

I see him getting hurt within the first 2-3 games and then repeatedly after that.

Vick is trash. They should've left him in the alley where he belongs.

Did you hear from his press conference where he said "I now understand that people care about the welfare of their dogs"? Come on dude. Did you really think everyone else electrocuted theirs too?

If I had a dime for every time I've read that in the past 18 hours, Chris, I could afford to sign him.

I don't think he's even allowed to play until the 5th or 6th week???? Think I read that somewhere. He sucks regardless of the dog fighting issue.

There is one good thing about the Eagles - they're not the Cowboys...:ok:ok

Of course, my team got smoked last night in their first preseason game...:dft006:unhappy

Actually Goodell said he will have made a decision by week 6 so he could realistically start anytime.

And if the heat gets too hot the decision may be "no."

This is out of character for me. I HATE Vick. A little ****y bastard who thought he was better that he was. Also, my team is the Bucs (who never really had success against, and ironically the Eagles), so it's understandable my stance.

I'm not big on 2nd or 3rd chances. But with Vick, it seems at least for now to have humbled him up and realized where he is (NFL) is a privilege. On some level, I think I'm actually rooting for him to succeed.

And with those kind of comments, I feel obligated to say: I have 2 dogs, who are like family members to us. We love dogs, animals, etc. I'm not condoning what he did by any means, but people are capable of change, no?

At the very least, maybe it'll push McNabb to step it up.

EDIT: One more thought I'd like some feedback on. Vick kills dogs and gets what, 20, 23 months in jail and community service, was suspended before he was convicted, and is suspended after release.

Stallworth kills a MAN with a DUI, and gets 30 DAYS in prison?! and 1 yr suspension.... How is that even close to fair?

The Eagles were already my least favorite team, but now they put the Redskins and Giants in a very distant second place tie.

I agree that the guy who killed PEOPLE should be put away for a bare minimum of involuntary manslaughter. He got off WAY too easy.
But I think Vick got what he deserved- with the exception of being able to play again. I think someone that sick needs to just stay away.

Don't any of you think for a second I won't be routing for the Eagles just as hard this year as any just because of this. Personel and management decisions are my least favorite aspect of the game anyway.

i don't think you'll have to cheer for Vick too long. I don't think he'll make it half the season before somebody hurts his sorry ass.

I agree with Ramesh a lot on this one. I'm a huge dog lover and have always been, but I think Vick has been punished fairly well for his heinous actions. I don't know whether he's really humbled, but I hope so.

My more football related thoughts are:

He was always way over-rated
I like Mcnabb tons and hope he keeps Vick on the bench through playing well.
I hate the Eagles as well.

Why does everyone hate the Eagles so much? I guess I just haven't been a fan long enough to understand the massive negative vibe the world has for Philly.

Mostly because I'm a Cowboys fan. Have nothing against Philly as a city, or provider of cheesesteaks.

I don't think it's a world-wide hatred for the Eagles honestly. Had they ever won a championship I could see others outside of their division beginning to despise and hate them. As we all know they haven't done that and so the hatred exists mainly within the division.

However, lots of NFL fans just hate on Eagles' fans. I don't think that has anything to do with the team though.

Thanks. I agree with pretty much all of this. Vick is a talented athlete, but a sub par QB.

Reasons why I hate the Eagles. Anyone feel free to add this list.

1. Buddy Ryan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddy_Ryan)

2. TO - if the Eagles had kept him longer he never would've come to Dallas.

Ugh, putting Vick back in the NFL is like having Chris Brown perform at the NCADV convention. Both send the wrong message.

3. Eagles fans booed Santa (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=nfl&id=1980880). Who boos Santa? The Grinch?

I think there are other worse examples of the NFL's overlooking any sort of justice. Donte Stallworth was mentioned above, and Leonard Little of the Rams is an even more ridiculous example. He also killed a person while drunk in a vehicle. Got suspended for all of EIGHT games and remains in the league to this day.

And how about Brandon Marshall? He seems to - allegedly - make a pretty regular habit out of beating up on women. What's he had so far discipline wise from the NFL - a one game suspension and some stern words?

I'm a big dog lover, have owned dogs all my life, but there are much worse offenders IMO happily plying their trade in the NFL than Mike Vick.

Maybe the fact that their old stadium had a jail in it...

Actually most pro sports venues have holding cells and/or mini-jail facilities in them.

Yeah, but the Eagles' old stadium was usually full.

Did the other stadiums (stadia) have their own judges as well?

I don't see him playing outside pre-season. 1 year with philly and he's gone to another team. He'll probably be the starter too.

Read this elsewhere, pretty much sums up my point of view on this...

(was in response to a mass email sent out complaining about his signing)

I really don't want to turn this into a heated argument because you obviously feel very strongly about the topic, but would you really rather Michael Vick was incarcerated forever? I'm sure you know at least one person who has been/is still incarcerated. Do you not believe that person deserves a chance at redeeming themselves to society once their debt has been paid? Michael Vick has been given a tremendous opportunity here. This could be one of the greatest stories of redemption ever told, yet it sounds like you want to stop this before it has even begun. Whatever happened to Christian Forgiveness?

As a member of our great society AND a dog owner, I believe Michael Vick and I are all square. He owes me nothing else. The choices HE MADE led to nearly 3 years incarceration, bankruptcy, public shame and humiliation to himself and his family and most importantly, as a father, he has lost the first 2 years of his young daughter's life...something he will NEVER get back, no matter how much money he makes in the NFL.

I, for one, applaud Jeff Lurie (owner of a rescue dog himself) and the Philadelphia Eagles organization for extending their hand to Michael Vick. They could have easily been one of the masses that continue to turn their back on Vick. Instead they chose to help a man get his life back on track and become a valuable member of society. If you watched their press conference yesterday you would have seen that it was not an easy decision for the Eagles, but a decision that the organization felt they needed to make.

Tony Dungy, a devout Christian and one of the most well regarded people to ever be involved in the NFL, can stand by Michael Vick's side and say that Michael is genuinely remorseful for his actions and deserves a second chance. Why can't you?

Just curious, but did you also write your local congressman after Donte Stallworth served under 30 days for vehicular manslaughter?

Thank you for providing the Philadelphia Eagles Corporate Partners link below. I will make sure I copy this email to them supporting their decision to give Michael Vick a second chance.

i believe in 2nd chances, people make mistakes, just dont make the same ones > 1 time

Mo, I appreciate the copy of the email and well said. I am an animal lover and we have several rescued pets. Vick has paid his dept to society and now maybe able to influence others to treat animals in a humane manner. :ok:ok

Good question. I have made some mistakes in life and if others hadn't given me a second chance I would be dead by now. So having traveled the wrong road once in my life and been the beneficiary of grace I think I'll pass forgiveness forward and let the Deity sort it out.
