I saw the midnight showing last night. I did enjoy the movie, however, I felt as if I was missing something the entire time. I'm not sure exactly what that "something" was or if it exists, but I still can't put my finger on it.

It's different for sure, and filmed pretty much in cinema-verité, but it's a good film with a thought-provoking message.

Closest theater is about 1 hour away, I gotta really want to see a movie to see it in the theater. I'll catch it on a torrent or wait for the DVD (most likely on a torrent).

I saw it last night. Hands down, absolutely worth the money! Great special effects, great acting and superb story line. And this was a "lower" budget movie for Hollywood standards. Absolutely wonderful.
TWO THUMBS UP! :ok:ok:ok:ok

Yep, that's what I heard too. Considering that the special effects were as good as some $250 million movies, it was phenomenal!

I loved that movie, it makes you look at life in a different way. The aliens were surely different as they looked more like giant bugs than "real" aliens.
Can't wait for it to be released on Blu-Ray as well, and for a sequel to be made.

I agree, DEFINITELY a big opening for a sequel. And after the great reception this one is receiving, I would imagine they'd go for it.

I VERY much enjoyed the film. I wouldnt take a a child to see this tho. The alien electric vaporizer gun is very traumatic also many of the undermining plot points the child wouldnt beable to understand. The story was very engaging, not filled with boring parts, or chock full of parts where one asks "did that really need to make it past editing".
The story was very sad but quite a beautiful one. I really like how the aliens werent "gimmicky looking" or cliché looking and i really really love the story backplot of things...the whole If the aliens are peaceful and dont obliterate us our human atrocities and secret agencies will experiment, run tests, kill them analyze their weapons etc.
Kudos to Peter Jackson for making that 30million budget and its amazing visual effects look like the budget was 300+ million. The film grossed like 37million on opening weekend already putting it in 7 million of profit for day one.

If the Halo movie adaptation of the video game Peter Jackson was doing didnt fail, District 9 wouldnt exist.

Why in the world did that fail? I would imagine most of the people in the world would support/want that movie. =P

Yeah it did fail. It was over budget, it was being done during the writters strike, writing a movie around a character that is emotionless or talks very little is a difficult task to make enjoyable for millions of people. The movie is just too hard to make, and since then all the rights have gone back to Microsoft and Bungie. Sony pictures cant make a film unless they have the rights.
