Do I need my simcard to inside my LG Xenon to Unlock?

Going to the Philippines in a few weeks with some friends and currently have my AT&T Sim when I signed up in my Unlocked T-Mobile Motorola Krazr. When I call AT&T to have them give me the subsidy code, will they know it is not in the phone? Will they see that it is in the Krazr? What are the chances of me getting the code to unlock? Do they tell me the code over the phone or through an email?
