Hey,

I've got a basic question regarding iphone mods. I'm not satisfied with the contract terms that go with the official iphone sales channel, so I'm planning to buy a used iphone. I know, that it can be unlocked and jailbroken, but I'd like to know if I get one thing right.

In order to gain access to the Apple App Store, I need to activate my phone. In order to activate it (legally), I need to sign up a contract.

If so, If I won't sign any contract, use JB and redsn0w to unlock my phone, still I won't get access to all those thousands of apps that are in apple app store. Am I right? If not, please tell me the way how to register in itunes with a unlocked iphone using a 3rd party gsm provider.

Thanks in advance!

Jailbreaking and using redsn0w will also activate your iPhone, so you don't need a contract to be able to access and get apps from the App Store. The only thing you will need is an iTunes store account.

I have a spare first-generation iPhone that is jailbroken and was activated using redsn0w with a T-Mobile pay-as-you-go SIM card in it and I have no trouble using the App Store.
