View Full Version : Sorry for noob question. Can someone help me guide me how to Unlock & Jalibreak a 2G

Sorry for the dumb question but I have never attempted this before and I have a 2G phone with version 3.0 on it.

My wife and I both upgraded to 3GS and would like to sell this one. I have heard that if it is Jalibroke and Unlocked it sells for more.

Is there a difference between Jailbreaking and Unlocking?

What steps do I need to take to Jalibreak and Unlock?

Jailbreaking- allows you to install apps from Cydia and Icy that Apple don't approve of.

Unlocking- allows you to put whatever SIM card you like into your phone. So if your on AT&T you can put a T-Mobile SIM card in instead.

Quick question, how do I unzip the Red Sn0W, its a Torrent file and I have never messed with those before :)

NM, I did a little research and realized I needed a torrent app like BitTorrent and that is just a link, so I am downloading RedSn0w now I think ;)

Once i have followed that guide and Unlocked and Jailbroke how can I tell if it is Unlocked?

If you have friend with T-Mobile, you can put their SIM in it to verify that it worked. If not, you could probably just take it in to a T-Mobile store and see if they can check it for you.

Are you only unlocking it to sell it? I would definitely unlock it if you're selling it, the value of the V1's has plummeted since the 3GS has been released. I think they're going for less than $175, and that's unlocked.

Jailbreak it with redsn0w and then reboot and the T-Mobile SIM should work.
