Fast downloads but slow browsing

I'm having some problem with my internet. When I try to download a file, I get around 800 - 1000 kpbs. But when I'm browsing, it is terribly slow. It take me a good 30 seconds to get Gmail up at times. I have to sometimes refresh multiple time to get a page to load. Is it a problem with the browser or my computer? I'm running Safari 4 and Firefox 3 on Mac OS X 10.5.8.

Are you using Wifi or 3G? If it's the former, you might be experiencing problems with your DNS server. Just a guess.

I'm using an Ethernet cable right out of a Rogers modem.

What type of internet (DSL, cable, wireless, etc)? What speed are you paying for? Post a screen shot of your speeds. http://www.speedtest.net/

It's a Rogers DSL line. The upload is terribly slow
