Heres some updates from the developers twitter

FB app update: polishing graphics, translations, bug fixing, etc. these things take time. 98% was a bad estimate, sorry. Gotta get it right.12:48 AM Jul 25th (http://twitter.com/joehewitt/status/2828429410) from Tweetie (http://www.atebits.com/)

Just got done adding birthdays to the FB app. This is what I do for fun on a saturday night.8:47 AM Aug 2nd (http://twitter.com/joehewitt/status/3083790191) from Tweetie (http://www.atebits.com/)

Sorry for not giving an ETA, but I want to ship when it is ready, not just to meet a deadline.1:40 AM Aug 3rd (http://twitter.com/joehewitt/status/3095163751) from Tweetie (http://www.atebits.com/)

Every time I think I'm done, I find another thing I want to make better, more stable, more full-featured, better looking. It's a huge app.1:40 AM Aug 3rd (http://twitter.com/joehewitt/status/3095176233) from Tweetie (http://www.atebits.com/)

I really do appreciate all the enthusiasm and the feedback! I want to make you guys happy and forget about the bugginess of the 2.x app.3:44 AM Aug 3rd (http://twitter.com/joehewitt/status/3097050632) from Tweetie (http://www.atebits.com/)

I'm rather impressed with the Facebook application. Considering the other shiite that I've seen in iTunes, I'd say that it does quite a bit. While it doesn't upload pictures, I just got the email which gives you an email address to upload your pictures and it works great. Has chat, has mail, see your friends, updates, notifications... not bad at all.

You can, however, go to https://register.facebook.com/mobile/Facebook Mobile (https://register.facebook.com/mobile/) in your account settings, and you will see your personal upload email.

Its so limited compared to what most people need. Lately its been so buggy that I have been using the mobile web version rather than the app, or the iPhone web version.

Can they charge for updates now?
I thought they can only charge monthly/yearly stuff.

RossMc

Ofcourse it will be free the developer works for Facebook and they don't charge for anything else, so I can't see them charging for a iPhone app when all the other facebook apps for diffrent platforms are free

And at the speed the facebook team goes, we'll see push in about another year.

Got this from their facebook page

The one feature everyone is asking for, Push Notifications, is in development but it won't make it into 3.0. You can expect it in a 3.1 update later this summer.

Well considering summer is almost over... and to get 1% on an update from facebook it's taken what... 3 months? To get push notifications, maybe it'll be in time for christmas.

I'd still like to see the MMS that AT&T promised us. But I won't sue over stupid little phone issues.

I am beginning to hate the word "summer" lol. I can understand it's frustrating for people wanting FB push. Really not an issue for me. I get the message when I get it. No one I really want "pushed" anywhere. Just personal needs. Not so sure I really care about MMS since email is a viable alternative. I DO get pissed about paying extra for SMS though.

Scraggles, you have been really negative about a LOT of things here lately, especially the Facebook app. Let me put it this way, if you think you can do better and quicker, be my guest.

The team behind this app have completely rewritten it top to toe and that is what has taken the time. They promised it us by late summer, so we still have 4/6 weeks left on that original time scale, but as you should appreciate that timescales change. They do not get paid for there time on this app, they werent even officially affiliated with facebook at the beggining.

They are doing their best to create a much better app, and from the beta testings and screenies it looks like the update will be a massive improvement. Until it is released the Facebook app is great. Its the most used app on my iPhone (including mail and phone) and I think the team behind it deserve a bit more credit than people like you critising constantly.

The last update from them wasnt great, it was VERY buggy and this is one of the major reasons they havent rushed the app out like a lot of companies do - They have worked efficiently and well, that doesnt necessarily mean they have worked quickly.
They just want people to forget the bugginess of the last update and have a great app.

Push will not be supported until 3.xx update, this is due to the fact that many people (such as you) are critising them for the slow updates... and they want to get a great 3.0 out sooner rather than make everyone wait for push.

I am happy with the current facebook app for now, its better than the Myspace app, and im even more excited about the 3.0 update. The team deserve plenty of credit, I would happily pay for this app, even in its current form.

Give the guys a break, Jeez

I'm really interested in that "Doug Highland commented on your post" feature. Does it update by itself, or better still how did it that RED number 1 get there?

I'm positive they're getting paid for their time on this app. Facebook may be free to use, but you apparently have NO idea of the money they pull in.

Facebook was valued at 3.7 billion in feb. If they aren't paying their programmers with that kind of money, then something is SERIOUSLY wrong.

And who are we kidding? They did put a LOT into this update. Charge $0.99. I'll pay it and I guarantee EVERYONE else who uses facebook with their iphones will do the same. Which is pretty much everyone with an iPhone.

hinky

As Is the Facebook application is better than 99% of iPhone applications. Most iPhone apps suck and are all the same with horrible interfaces that are clean but make you go back and forth between screens more often than watching a tennis match. At least they make better use of a top menu system, etc. Looking forward to the next version. There is no question that the group that created the application was/is compensated in some fashion.

My apologies, that was a typo, was meant to say "did not". When Joe Hewitt created the app, he was doing it alone. The company he was working for was then incorporated by Facebook. So yes, technically Joe is now being paid by Facebook and yes, he is most definatly being paid for his time now - Originally, he wasnt. The app he built was a standalone project, the 3.0 update is now the app it should / would have been had he been able to devote his time to it...

And im fully aware of the revenue social networking sites generate, im a qualified chartered accountant that completed a dissertation on social networking revenue. :dft011:wicked_smile

I guess the addition here is it's 'adding the name' to the main screen.
