So I was happily grabbing a screenshot with Skitch earlier and dragged it to the desktop as always to have it saved there as a .jpg file - and it kept doing nothing as I tried.

Eventually - after a very, very long delay - I got a Finder error message:

Ah, ok - but I never asked for any file to be invisible. WTF? Also, I can't find a Finder (or other) preference that says 'Please make **** invisible just to add a little spice to my day') so that I can toggle it back off. And to add to the fun, I cannot find the file in question via Finder, Spotlight, or Quicksilver.

Anyone ever come across this / have a fix? Via Google I can only find quite old (pre Leopard) article like this one at Macrumors (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=210613) that mention the issue.

I have never, ever seen anything like that before. You found a good one! ;)

Does restarting the Finder from the force quit menu do anything to help? What about fixing disk permissions?

I had some problems with Skitch and eventually trashed it. Does the built-in screenshot functionality work for you still?

A good one eh - lucky me :dft009:happy

Renaming of the file in question within Skitch - which for some reason, on just a couple files started with a '.' - got past it.

I love Skitch - use it daily and the screencap features work great for me.

yeah, any file that starts with a period is "invisible" to finder... a lot of system directories and such use this... like trash folders, etc.

anyways, i've been using skitch for over a year with no issues. i love it.
