Good day,
I am now a registered developer for the iPhone and iPod touch.
You may ask "But Sam, you still have a PC and don't even have the iPhone!"
this is true.
but not for long.
Within a month, I will be purchasing a MacBook, and will start to develop applications.
This winter, I will, after a year and a half, be returning to the iPhone, and begin to release applications in the App Store.
There is a rather large chance that I will also, in addition to the App Store, will release 'light' versions of my applications through Cydia and Installer.
Most likely, I will not charge for them in the beginning, but once I have decided that they are good enough, I will make them cost 99 cents.
Good Day to all.
I'M COMING BACK TO THE iPHONE!
Who the hell are you? ;)
Welcome back. Let's butt heads. I want to develop something too, just don't really know where to start. :ok:ok

Good stuff that you are getting a Mac - you'll never look back (and that rhymes and ****).
Great stuff that you're coming back to the iPhone and going to try your hand at developing apps. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Can you give any hints as to what types of app you're keen to develop?
BTW, Installer is no more. R.I.P.

oh no, installer is gone? Damn!
anyways, i want to make an application that, when opened, will show you three things : a search bar, a button labeled 'chords' and a button labeled 'tuner'.
the search bar is for the purpose of typing in a song name, which it will search the internet for tabs and chords. It will show the results to the user. The user will then choose an option, and it will display the tab or chords for that song. For chords, you will be able to press the chord letter, and it will show you the way to play a given chord.
for the chords button, once pressed, it will open up a list, much like in contacts, with a search bar at the top, and will display notes, such as G#/Ab, A, A#/Bb, B, etc, and once you click the note name, it will show variations, such as Cmaj, Cmin, Cmaj7, etc.. and will show you how to play said chords.
the tuner part of the application will be a much simpler bit. It will use the microphone and tell you if a note is sharp or flat.

I am thinking of going back to the iPhone as well. I will buy the 3G though, we don't have the 3GS here yet and I am not sure if Turbo Sims (or software unlocks) work on them.

Sam - I'm not musical at all, so I can't say how promising that is. What I can say is that people steal ideas every day, all over the web. If I were you I'd edit your post a lot - trim it down to just a very generic idea of the type of app, and keep your more detailed thoughts to yourself.
Thanks for sharing by the way, but for your sake I think you need to think about whether you shared too much.

There's already a mic based tuner app, so I doubt he's in danger of losing a great idea to another dev. This looks to me like a natural evolution and convergence of existing ideas. I actually have a few of my own such convergence ideas. I wouldn't need to steal any.

I definitely wasn't meaning you with regard to the stealing bit, or really any one of our regulars here at EIC, but as in any large community, or well trafficked site, there will be far less scrupulous folks who will see the post as well.

Tuner app would be nice. I haven't investigated other Tuner apps out there, but perhaps I should. You've sparked my interest. Or, maybe I'll just wait for yours, Sam. :dft012:wink
