looking to buy an HD Camcorder any suggestions

Hey everyone

I am looking to purchase an HD Camcorder

Budget $250-$400

Any suggestions?

I told my wife I should just get the 3gs but she wants to use it also so help me out.

What do you all think of those flip camcorders with the built in usb

Not sure what's out there in that range. I think the Flip HD/ Creative Vadu HD cams are great, but they are a different animal. They are perfect for grabbing random video moments, that would likely be over if you went to grab your mainstay camera.

I have the Vadu which you can find under $200. I never done anything with the video, but it does look pretty good when played back on an HDTV. I don't think they are suitable for a go-to camera. Check out Vimeo and you can find samples of playback filmed with both.

Not sure where Canon HD cams are priced now, but I'm pretty happy with mine. Keep an eye on Slickdeals.net. You might find a good deal there, I know I always do.

Tony, Canon is usually pretty good as Chris mentioned.

They have some standard definition cameras within your range, but for HD it's pretty costly.

If you want something cheaper, try Sony (http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=8198552921644618896). They have some affordable HD options in the $200 dollar range.

Chris you nailed it on what I am looking for.. Just those rare on the go moments. I am looking to capture video of my son that is arriving in a few weeks not the birth but those moments that are priceless. I know I should invest in an expensive one but at this moment I think saving the money for baby supplies is more important. Damn just if I could talk the wife into buying herself the iphone3gs and getting mine upgraded. This would not be a problem then.
