Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.
See if this helps.

I think the evil AT&T people know that I don't like having to pay that $30 a month for internet, so they have gremlins in my phone to disable the wifi so that I will have to use the internet!

Do you have "Ask To Join Networks" turned on. Grabbing at straws here. Don't know why one would work and not the other.

To be serious and honest, I'd tried a restore through iTunes.

If your suffering from issues connecting to wifi and simple solutions don't work- then the restore is for you.

Set up as new phone then sync all you data afterwards.

restoring now. will see what happens. it has done this before a few weeks ago, and a restore worked. just seems silly to have to do this.

I did a restore twice, once from backup once as a new phone. No dice. I really think it's the 3.0 OS (but only on 3g)... Apple store??

It could be the system administrator has limited the number of users to keep performance acceptable.

System admin?? It's my own wifi at my home... I hope this gets resolved in an update...

last night when I got home I did a "restore from backup". that didn't fix the problem and my wifi at home wouldn't connect. so today I just did a complete restore as a new phone, and still doesn't connect to the wifi at work. it asked for the wep key, but just says "unable to connect to network". lovely......

I am having the same problem at the hospital. My 3GS has connected to the WiFi there without issue since purchase until 5 days ago. Now nothing. Other folks 3GSs are connecting without problems. This is a real issue for me since I need the Internet frequently to access patient info, clinical data, etc.

Try a reset of Network settings.

If that doesn't work then:

When your in the area of your works wifi- head into your settings, then into wifi, click on the name of your works wifi, scroll to the bottom and tap 'Forget Network'

Then... once that's done, search for wifi networks and attempt to reconnect to it and see if that works.

I've had an iPhone since shortly after the original iDay. I've jailbroken, unlocked, restored, blended, pureed, and generally wreaked havoc on it since the beginning which is why something as simple as connecting to the WiFi network which has been an effortless experience both with my V1 and initially with this absolutely unmolested 3GS is so frustrating. If I'd messed with it in some way I'd have no excuse.

This isn't my first rodeo and I've done everything short of pulling the circuit board out, hitting it with some solder and re-inserting it. :dft010:smiling

Oh how I agree. If you goto apple's community forum about iphone networking, you would be amazed how many people are having the same problem. Search the internet, and it is posted numerous times how many people are having trouble with this. WAKE UP APPLE!

But since they won't really acknowledge that their ipods were getting so hot to cause burns, I don't think they are going to make a world wide announcement and apology for bad software.

I am very seriously thinking of getting a Blackberry. I can't afford to go and buy another phone. anyone want to buy an Iphone 3g?

I have already had to have one Iphone replaced after a month and a half, (they did send a new one though not refurbished) and it didn't take long at all, guess I could do it again.

Nope, no need to shut up. Just illustrating that the very simple task of getting my phone hooked up to WiFi not working is making me ready to pull my hair out!

I was joking mate :)

But seriously.. If you find a solution then let us know, it's good to have these tips/tricks stored somewhere to help people with the same problems/issues.

Hope you sort it.

let me run this by ya'll and see what you think.............

I called an Apple store that is closest to me. He said he is not an authorized repair center. but anyway we did have a wonderful conversation.

He said that Apple designs their products to work with other apple products first. he said that the iphone software and hardware is designed with working with the apple router in mind. that other router manufactures design their routers to be as economical as possible so they do not include all the bells and whistles that the apple router has, thus the price difference. that apple software on the iphone is looking for ALL the gizmos included in the apple router, that may not be on the cheaper routers. thus the problem.

bunch of whoha or does this make sense?

Sounds like hooey to me but what do I know. My friend and his son have used his 2 non-Apple WiFi routers without issue. I've used my new IPhone on his and my own router without issue.

I once gave an Airport as a Christmas present to a young lady so she could have access at her mom & dad's Mac-only household. When I made the purchased, I could not help thinking that a Linksys router would have worked just as well in the same setup for 1/4 the cost.

YMMV

Sounds like a big load of you know what. If that is true I would say that is subversive crap to goad people into buying another router. Some people are having problems connecting after loading 3.0, no doubt about that.

I know you have already tried a restore. Did you do it from back up or restore as new? Can't remember.
