That is a good question, I personally am responsible for talking with Steve and I will place a call in the morning, his secretary said he has already gone home. I don't want to bother at home. It is 6:52pm pacific right now, post tomorrow morning.

Sounds good. And hey, since you'll already be on the phone with him, can you let him know that I got the pictures he sent of his vacation time while he was "ill".

This is great because it's been a good 20 minutes since the last MMS thread. We've gone 2 years without it and now because a half-assed attempt of releasing has been announced, attempted, hinted at everyone's antsy again

There's gotta be a work around... wait for it... wait for it...
I have MMS and I never use it. I've had it since 3.0 beta 2 for the 3G and it's a little faster in sending on the 3GS than the 3G.

Moved this to the AT&T forum since this is an AT&T issue. Some carriers in other countries have already implemented MMS for the iPhones on their networks.

I'm at work and I did notice that "iPhone MMS PPU" and "iPhone MMS Opt Out" options has recently been added into the system. So i will say very soon.

I think threads like this are essential, they keep everyone informed.
All summer long I've heard we'll have MMS sometime in late summer. I was just told by an AT&T rep it's going to be sometime in the fall. All AT&T is doing is stringing us along, I seriously doubt well have MMS capabilities before the first of the year.

Isn't it possible for you to lose your job at ATT, just for being a part of iPhone forums? Or is that only Apple employees...

Unless they can really prove it's him, they can't. Same with me, I can say everything I want, but I will definitely let them know it's my cousin doing all this, including this message :dft012:wink

Ah I see. It must be nice, having to worry about Apple, your employer, finding out that you are on a forum regarding the iPhone, which you sell to people... at an Apple store. Where you work. FOR MONEY.

I work for AT&T as a manager. Apple may be a bit strict, but they would never win in a court of law with that.

Hopefully its August. There is absolutely NO reason why we shouldn't be able to send MMS today. No different data usage wise since we all browse the web. ATT just sucks.

Big difference... people actually use their phones and that then means a lot of data being used. I have MMS and I noticed that the quality is better than any phone I've ever sent/received MMS on. It retains as much of the quality as possible. This is going to definitely cause a strain on the network. Other networks like Verizon don't have this issue because they don't have the iPhone. Outside the US, they aren't as big of a provider for iPhones.

No definitely no difference. I guarantee people quadruple their data usage with the web/itunes/email then compared to sending a measly 1mb picture of that.
I'm sorry but att is still in the wrong here and big time. They gained soooo many paying customers and this is how they repay us by ripping us off even more. ATT knew well before we did about when MMS would be coming to the iPhone so they've had 6 months (at least) to prepare for this...

Not making an excuse, but stating the facts. People use the web/iTunes/email more on the iPhone because there isn't MMS! On other smartphones and regular dumb phones, aside from business users, messaging runs circles around web/iTunes/email/phone. It's fact, and working for AT&T, I see it. In fact, a lot of customers block internet. Messaging unlimited is $30 a month for a family of four. It's $120 extra per month to have the family all have data.
It's getting old how people blame AT&T for not having the feature or dropping the ball... why did you purchase this device if it was so important? There is no excuse for anyone to complain about a feature that was known not to be there and was said to be coming later this summer. The economy is bad, so don't expect AT&T to be giving Overtime for this feature to get pushed, you can wait; everyone's been waiting since 2007, another month or two won't kill you.
Part 1 - I will also let you in on the reason why AT&T is in the position it is in... Apple said they would never get MMS and that it was primitive; email was going to take over. Well, AT&T seeing that Apple wasn't going to add it, not only created a text only package for the iPhone, it also had to remove xyz (can't say what it is) from the back-end to stop those that had family messaging and had an iPhone, but had a different phone on the account allowing them to get MMS. So the system would automatically recognize an iPhone when it would hit the cell tower vs. going by the phone on the account.
Part 2 - Apple then says to whoever needs to know (upper management in corporate) that all these features were coming, but guess what? Upper management isn't the ones re-enabling these features and since Apple has all employees (including me) take a training and acknowledge/agree to secrecy, they didn't tell the team (tech) that would enable it or else they would have known it was coming. When the announcement was made, they allowed developers to call in and get MMS enabled while working on adding the feature to the biller for the iPhone. So many "developers" were calling in, they stopped doing it.
Part 3 - With the feature code that is going to be added, I believe the effective date will all be the same for everyone so it seems as the switch was flipped for everyone at the same time. This part is speculation, but this is why a lot of people are seeing iPhone MMS PPU codes.
PS... 400% upload increase for YouTube when the 3GS was released. Yes, big difference.

Duvi, taking all of that into consideration, why were carriers like O2 and Rogers (among the 20 some others) able to have it ready on the release date? I recently called at&t tech support for help with a sim card issue and figured I would ask why they weren't ready and I was told they received a memo in december explaining they would need to get ready to support the iphone sending mms and they didn't know why it couldn't be ready. Oh and when I called back when I was on beta 1 of 3.0 to get it working, I asked when they predicted mms would be ready(to see if I could get a predicted 3.0 release date) they told me 'when Apple releases 3.0 iphone 3g users will be able to use mms". So somewhere between March and June something went wrong, what was it? And what is your predicted month for the release?
I somewhat agree with you that we can wait, you have to understand that when it was announced in March people got excited about mms and tethering since they have been requested since the beginning of the iphone. No one expected to have to wait while the rest of the world enjoyed it. And we aren't the only ones complaining, I have seen many television reporters and websites beat the subject to death.
Because they didn't take the extra step that AT&T in blocking it. Simple and also that is what I believe, but of course I'm unsure, I don't work for them.
Tech support uses CrackBerry.com as a resource, they don't know jack ****. I'm a manager and I only knew about MMS through rumor sites, not my company. They either came up with a bold face lie or they were on the websites as well.
"We aren't the only ones complaining" is almost like Jumping off a roof because everyone else is and honestly, I like my 3GS and MMS would be icing for me, and since I have my own thoughts and opinions, I don't listen to "other" people. Heck, if I listened to what "reporters, websites & tv" had to say about things I buy/say/do, I would probably never do anything in my life. There is always going to be critics, but what matters is what works for you, not your sister, not your neighbor nor a Hollywood star.
My main point is, how can you complain about not having MMS if you never had it, they gave a time frame (later this summer) and you also picked the iPhone knowing this (in which is a form of agreement/acceptance of the fact). It's not like they gave you MMS and then took it back or promised it on 6/17 (when 3.0 was released) and never delivered.
I, like the next guy would hope it come sooner, but the fact is, AT&T has until mid September to deliver. Although I have MMS on my iPhone, most of the ones I message now have iPhones (I converted a lot, lol). So, although I can send and receive MMS, it would be to no avail.

Ok so like you said AT&T was under the impression apple would never add it an almost made it as permanent as you can get, added servers for the viewmymessage website, and made texting plans for it and the family one compatible. In other words there was a lot of time and money spent to make it that way and now you guys have to reverse it.
I have my own thoughts too and had them the second apple made the official announcement at WWDC, so don't go saying I am following other people. And I was just pointing out that the media was making a big deal about it too, as they should. It does matter to me and like I said before I had it working for 4 months on the beta 3.0's and it wouldn't have stopped if I didn't switch to a 3GS. So they could have had something temporary in place until what is being worked on now was ready.
I did buy the phone and was fine with it's lack of mms at the time but when I was told it would be added I figured that the only carrier in the US would try to be a little speedier at getting it ready. I don't know how 4 months wasn't enough time to get it ready, I would have been fine with it to be out in June or July, but now it's getting a little ridiculous.

Not much money wasn't spent (if at all)... the feature was always text only being added to every activated phone (since June 30th) and for the back-end piece, it's easy to have it systemically remove capabilities (like the one the gets removed) when your IMEI registers to the tower. One of the issues is that it also happened to accounts with a different phone on the account, regular messaging plan and now not only iPhone accounts, but all accounts that have an iPhone or even used an iPhone to be manually put back on.
Also, I never stated that you were "following people", but you are using them as a point of reference.
Once again, please read "Part 2" of my previous post as to why it is taking long and why it wasn't ready by June/July.

Ok now with all of your posts I have a better knowledge of why it is taking this long and I am thankful to you for that. The vague excuse is about the only reason I wasn't very happy with at&t. I thought we deserved a better excuse from either apple or at&t. I remember rumors back in march of apple being partly at fault for the delay of at&t being told due to their secrecy.
That is my bad for taking it that way and yes I was using them as a point of reference.

And now you know why we haven't had full disclosure from AT&T. Because it would make their lovely business partner, Apple, look bad. Besides, it's a rather complicated, long-winded explanation for a press release. If you think about it, AT&T is really taking a substantial hit in the PR dept. by taking the fall for this.

I am sure at&t is fine taking the fall for it so they can keep their relationship with the iphone as long as they can. And without blaming apple for the entire thing they needed a vague answer so it looked as little as possible like it was poor planning on their part. Which I do know now that it was not poor planning, I am just saying it could look like that.
