This is a brilliant thread.

My PS3 is more powerful than that computer :)

I remember learning about that during the moon shot. It's amazing what NASA was able to accomplish with such a puny computer.

I liked this part of the article:

No computer would be complete without error messages, right? The AGC had those too, but when it flashed an error, it could easily mean you should kiss your ass goodbye and tell your loved-ones where you stored your last will and testament.

I hope when they go back to the moon, they make a special trip to retrieve the car that GM built, it is still there and still usable, let's think re-cycle

Great article..reading it makes me wonder how did the Apollo 11 even get off the ground, the guidance system was so primitive, and the computer could multitask all of 8 tasks, wow,...credit to the astronouts, they probably had to remember hundreds of toggles, switches, and thier functions.

The article says the iphone would be considered alien compared to the Apollo computer.
Thats crazy!

To think the pressure of remembering all those code strings, else you could just die.

Yeah, now they just flick with the finger for scrolling, still the same. I am sure there is an app that can control the thrusters and everything else. Yeah that is a fact not fiction, it can be done.

You guys REALLY think we actually went to the moon in 1969? I'm not saying we NEVER did, but I definitely don't think it was in 1969...

It is obvious you were not born in 1969. Everyone knows where and what they were doing on that Sunday when they stepped on the moon. Miss the '60s

You're right I definitely was not. But conspiracy theories are interesting in general. I'm not starting an argument.

I remember my Commodore 64. I sure wish I would have kept that as a collector's item. I guess never thought of computers as antiques.

I was lucky enough to have a 25Mhz accelerator installed in my Atari STE personally by Jim Allen when I was stationed in Massachusetts. That thing was a speed demon after that. :ok:ok

You know what's weird? With all our advancements in technology, not only have we not landed on the moon or Mars since then, but we can't even launch a shuttle without some kind of trouble. Yet that hunk o'metal/aluminum foil landed on the moon without a hitch. 40 yrs ago.

Speaking of which is anyone going to see that district 9 movie? From the trailers to me it looks like an alien species comes to our planet but instead of total obliteration we're the ones being horrible to them for our own advancement.

It was filmed back to back with "Capricorn One" in order to meet budget demands.

Don't tell Buzz Aldrin that or look what will happen.

It is no wonder we pay high taxes. It takes a lot of money to put together all these fake space videos. *rolls eyes*
