Hi everyone,
I'm new here and I have a question. I just upgraded to an iphone from a blackberry. The problem is that my wife is not eligible for an upgrade yet and her blackberry is not working properly (trac-ball broke). I can get an iphone from a friend cheap. The question is, if i get the iphone for my wife and jailbreak/unlock it would i just be able to put her SIM card in and be ready to go? Secondly, I jailbroke my iphone 3g, would i jailbreak /unlock the new(used) phone the same way (other than different software versions)? Thanks in advance for all of your help!!

You don't need to jailbreak and unlock it if you're already with AT&T. But if you're with T-Mobile, that should work fine. Just have her switch from the BB to the iPhone data plan if you have AT&T. There are a few different programs for jailbreaking and unlocking.

But if I would unlock/jailbreak the phone I wouldn't have to notify at&t and the iphone would work fine? If it does work could I then cancel the blackberry data plan and just use the wifi for my data? Just looking to save a few bucks!! Thanks again!

There are a couple ways to go about this.

1) BB SIM will work on iPhone running 3.1 beta 2. So upgrade and have your UDID added to a dev server. IF you have a jailbreak iphone do not do this as there is no jailbreak yet for 3.1

2) If you go with the AT&T iPhone plan there is absolutly no difference between the $30 and the $45 data plans except the cost. No matter what AT&T tells you will not work. It does.

If you need help with the 3.1 or UDID dev activation email wynndc@yahoo.com. This dude is cool and will walk you through MMS settings as well. Thanks.
