Japanese Keyboard Crash??

I have an Ipod Touch (2nd gen, with firmware 3.0) and everytime when when i try to type in japanese signs it crashes, with both the Kana and Qwerty keyboards. On the moment that it has made a japanese sign it just crashes and the app and goes back to the home menu.
Can anyone please help me with this?
