Yeah, it's fun. No practical application for me yet, but it's only been a day. :)

I thought there was an Appstore version of this out there...?

The App Store version is an earlier version. The developers got tired of waiting for approval and posted an updated version on Cydia.

I tried it on a bottle of water and it worked. I was impressed. It's quite clever.

I played with it as well - works great. Not sure if I'll ever use it for anything other than a toy.

Yeah, it's fun and cool, but... WTF? If you've got the product, you already know what the item is.... I guess price comparison is nice, but... Yeah, it's definitely just a toy.

The whole point of the app is being able to scan a product BEFORE you have purchased it.
While you're shopping, if you want to see if something is competitively priced you can now just scan the barcode instead of having to type the product name out in Google's shopping search.
Far from just a toy if you regularly buy expensive consumer products, or things in bulk at places like Costco, BJ's etc. Often I have found that products are available in bulk with free shipping cheaper on Amazon than at "discount" warehouses.

I was at my neighborhood Fry's the other day when I noticed they were having a big price drop on electronics. I saw a 46 inch LCD HDTV that I liked, scanned the code and discovered it was almost $400 less than the cheapest store on the RedLaser list. Not convinced, I called around and confirmed that what RedLaser was showing me was in fact true. I got the last TV in stock, beaming from ear to ear. This is the best app ever!

I downloaded this from Apple's App Store last night. It works really well. I hope to put it to more use in the future especially when I have to purchase a big ticket item. Right now it is a cool gadget to have on the iPhone and to show family and friends. It is $1.99.

Okay I had to re jailbreak my phone after 3.1. and MMS. Now I cannot find this on Cydia. Has it been removed due to being in the App Store now. I am going nuts looking for it.

It's still in there. Make sure you're searching for "Redlaser" (no space) and not "Red laser".

Yes I have tried that also. I spent almost an hour last night looking for it. Well atleast I know I am not alone. I thought I was going crazy. Can anyone confirm that they have taken it down?
