Has anyone tried learning a new language with the Rosetta Stone language learning software?
My buddy's fiance' got him the Spanish Latin American edition for his birthday. They plan on moving down to Costa Rica within the next couple years and thought it would be a good investment.
Although it's somewhat pricey you can install the software on two computers so you could split the cost with a friend. I was lucky as they gave me the disks because they've got one iMac that they share.
I have to say it's pretty amazing. Their approach is rather ingenious. You learn a new language the same way you learned your native tongue: without translation or memorization.

I've heard it's really good, though I'm more interested in Lesley Ann Machado of the Rosetta Stone commercials...:ok:ok

I have a suitable tool, and it's OS independent.

I noticed that shortly after creating the thread. I wonder how much it would cost Rosetta Stone if we all just constantly click the link? LMAO

Rosetta Stone is a great program. Our public library used to have it available online to everyone that had a card. Last year they changed the software to some other program. I used it to learn German, Russian and Japanese.

How does it work?? IS it like school and learning a new language? Does it teach you conjugation, tense, etc?
Does it teach u how to write? or just the phonetics?
I'd love to brush up on my japanese quickly.

Each lesson is broken down into sub-sections that teach you: Pronunciation, Vocabulary, Grammar, Reading, Writing & Listening. After completion of the various groups of lessons for a particular unit you do a review which covers all the sub-sections.
They offer a free CD to try the program which should give you a good idea of the program structure.

I have all languages on my PC, LOL. I need to learn Spanish since I was never taught, and the lessons in Rosetta Stone are quite interesting. If you have a mic, you can even do some lessons that see if your speaking is on par with the way it should sound naturally. I never finished but I need to get on the ball if I ever want to learn more than one language. ;)

Since you're sure to have either an iPhone or an iPod Touch, I thought I'd blow my horn and recommend our Spanish Course for the iPhone / iPod Touch.
It's different from Rosetta, but the benefit of having the course on the iPhone/iPod is that you can study anywhere anytime.
If anybody is interested, I have got a few free-codes for the first lesson. Just send me a pm (or visit the website and send a message on the contacts-page) and I'll let you know :)
Hasta luego,
Daniel
