Well im a ANDROID/G1 Fanboy and found my way on this forum so i think ill setup shop here and talk about how GREAT!, AWESOME!, and SPECTACULAR! the ANDROID/G1 is. I mean seriouslythe crappy phone which i dare not speak its name is so terrible i mean isnt it just like apple to lock down a phone so much. With the G1 there is no lockdown there freedom you dont have to worry about the hassle of not being able to add music as a ringtone or paying money for an update that should of been free. Hell, least the android developers get paid like they supposed to whereas apple takes years to pay out money. Android will be king in the next years and no pissy ass 3GS can change that. ROFL, steve jobs is really putting it iin your behinds he wants you to go out and spend money on another phone thats only has minor features installed. THE G1 IS FAR MORE SUPERIOR TO THE APPLE. EVERYONE COME TO THE LGIHT SIDE. JOBS IS A CON ARTIST HE WANTS YOUR MONEY. COOOOOOOOOME COOOOOOOOME COOOOOOME COOOOOOOME COOOOOOOOME. experience the true power of android.

Well, that was seemingly unproductive.
Since you want to give your opinion, I'll give mine.
The Android OS can be a great OS if more apps can be developed for it, and if it was a bit smoother, but that is partly due to hardware. Let's face it. The HTC G1 is a piece of crap. that whole popup screen to show the keyboard was a waste of time and everyone I know that had it, had it brake on them and got rid of the phone.
I think that the Android still has a little ways to go to be an actual contender. Right now, the closest device to perform as well as the iPhone is the Pre, and it's biggest drawbacks are Sprint, and no apps.

So you are telling me that keyboard on the G1 is no good..... You my friend are a feeble minded ole cooc everyone that i have spoken to absolutly loves this keyboard and it also goes to landscape with out an update. The G1 also has a Physical keyboard on top of that so it being a piece of trash is very far fetched seeing as it has taste for everyone. Yes it has its draw backs but its minor. Doesnt the iphone has its drawbacks and dont those drawbacks hinder the practical use of the phone.
Im failing to see how the apps on the iphone or even nearly as good as the ones on the G1. Seriously i can see the quality of the little apps we have or more valuable then the millions of apps on the iphone market lets compare barcode scanners between the phones who wins that battle G1 hands down . ALSO lets talk about affordability and accessability G1 hands down. shall we converse on which OS is more innovative. Lol you say that you dont see Android as a real contender lol we are already gaining in market share and we only have been operating for almost a year now. Whats it going to take for you people to realize that the Android is the best on the market right now.

Actually, if Android is so good, then, why do many manufacturers still not use it?
People prefer software to hardware keyboards, why? It is compact and is new technology.
G1 is an open-source product, iPhone OS isn't. iPhone and Android-powered devices have their merits, but in the end, iPhone is much more popular than any Android device presently.
You are right. How could we have been so wrong?
Everyone, Lets sell our iphones and all go get an android G1.

There are a lot of people that love hardware keyboards but thats not the point the point is the G1 offers both on one device. G1 is an open sourced project which is why its a lot better then apples gimmick n' tricks app store of course something is going to be more popular if it got a head start on the market. Take the xbox 360 it started out early and got most of the video game market share but wii the wii hit the market now look whats happened wii is leading the console wars at this point. So popularity means nonthing when it comes to technology
now you ask why dont we have a lot of manufactures making a lot of android phones. HAVE YOU BEEN UNDER A ROCK we have manufactures almost all of the big time manufactures are making at least one android phones. hell, even computer companies such as dell and acer are making an android phone. Also it takes time to get manufactures to carry phones especially if google is trying to have thier cloud and app services attached

gamecheif, I prefer that you correct your punctuation and grammar prior to posting here.
Dell are not making handsets, I prefer to have one keyboard, not two. A feature here is redundant. G1 isn't a project, the operating system, Android is.
Open Source doesn't make something automatically better than something else does it? No.

Anything solid about Dell being part of this? No!
Dell are not a part of the Open Handset Alliance. I've just come off the phone with someone who works at Dell's headquarters. She said that there is no current plan for any mobile devices to utilise the Android platform. The website you have linked to does not hae any solid proof that Dell are actively working on this platform.
Back to the topic though, iPhone is easier to use. My parents, who aren't technologically adapted found their way around iPhone easier than a G1, belonging to my brother-in-law.

Lol ct2k7 uh sure you did it took you 6 min to get through all the prompts and hold time with dell please dont lie to try to get the upper hand for the iphone and who knows your parents if your parents arnt that bright i saw a 76 year old using the phone like he studied it in school. Also they had plans to make a handset device and a Netbook.

Now they'd be quite offended by you, and I think you'd better re-evaluate your comments. My parents weren't brought up in the same world we live in today. I doubt that the 76 year old, actually studied the mobile device at his/her schooling period. It is thanks to my parents that I have the privileges that I have today, and to them, I thank.
I do have direct line, as a business customer, to a customer service and support manager. You said that they had plans... but not now.

Well done... this forum is called everythingicafe.... unless the Android can multi-task, which it cannot, then it's not going to be a winner for me.
The Android platform still has a lot to learn, as is new to the market. Just as when iPhone was released, it was not the best handset on the market, now it is virtually inarguable that it is.
At this point ct2k7, let it go. I will never say the iPhone is the best thing out there, because compared to some other high-end smartphones, it still falls a little short in some basic areas.
And this guy is so completely hung on the Android G1, that nothing is going to change his mind, even when it's obvious he's taken bias to a whole new level. Sure there are fanboys here, but we at least respect the other offerings out there that are worth a damn. I mean the Pre is great, and like I said before, the only drawbacks are no real apps to speak of, and they are on Sprint. But they just released. In a years time, the Pre could be awesome. But I will stick with what I like and enjoy using. My iPhone.
he wants to argue, don't give him the ammo.

I would tend to criticize the build quality of the Pre as well - much more so than the 3GS.

That's because no one wants to. It's one thing to be willing to have a discussion and be open to the opinions of others. It's another thing entirely to challenge others to "talk you down." This is trolling. Stop it.
