I have to say that I am very dissapointed with Att's service. I have been at so many places with my Iphone3g and i couldn't get any service, but my friends with Verizon always have service when I don't. I guess I can't understand the more bars in more places ad. I have heard that next year verizon will be getting the Iphone............could be just a rumor.......but if they do I will change service. I don't know what Verizons 3g speeds average..........can anyone elaberate on this issue?

thanks

When I had my V1 phone I felt the same way. I always said to myself "Is anyone checking the accuracy of the claims in these ads???" btw the more bars and fewest dropped calls vs reality, well, I was disgusted with AT&T. I live in Salt Lake City, with the V1 the iphone blew as a phone. My wife got to the point where she said not to call her b/c the call quality sucked and if I got through it was going to drop the call anyway. Since going to the 3Gs phone (I had to get it) all has been fantastic. I get reception where it previously did not, call quality is great, overall my satisfaction with AT&T skyrocketed. Verizon has always been good here too, but having been with Verizon for 6 or so years before the switch to AT&T I now feel, in the SLC area, that they are on par with each other.

Edit Added:
A friend of mine is running 3G on Verizon. We put the phones next to each other on a desk and check our google mail accounts. They were the same, but that is a low use of bandwidth. The next test was to load USAtoday.com, they were about the same. The iPhone was a tad faster. We then loaded cnn.com and his hung up on the site for a few seconds then finished. The iPhone loaded it a few seconds faster. We checked a few other sites and as far as SLC goes they were (for arguements sake) the same speed.

The rumors could be true in a few years. I think I read somewhere that AT&T has a good 2-3 years left of exclusivity, however, I did find an article that a company in Canada that is running CDMA is supposed to get the iPhone in the fall. There was something in there about the LTE (or similar in letters) system that would make it work, but I glazed over when I was reading those details. I do recall the carrier name was Telus.

AT&T has coverage maps readily available on their website showing the coverage AT&T overs across the United States. I know that in Florida the coverage is top-notch and virtually everywhere I go I have constant 3G coverage. Obviously this isn't the same with every state but perhaps looking at the coverage map would help a bit.

I bet AT&T would say that it's more bars in more places around the WORLD. And obviously the fewest dropped calls would pertain to that worldwide coverage. Yeah, it's evil.

I wonder if the aluminum backing of the v1 iPhone had something to do with terrible call reception?

Obviously, people had problems with the 3G iPhone but that was mainly due to the surge of subscribers. Not as many people bought the v1.

I read a few articles back in the day that this was the belief for the reception issues many had. Something to do with the radio antennas (or is it antnni?) being partially blocked due to the metal. Either way I am infinitely happier with the 3Gs!

The 'more bars in more places' ad is true if you're looking at the map...but doesn't necessarily mean everywhere. (as already said)

I do wonder though, why is this in the iPhone software forum? ;)

The AT&T ads are implying more bars in more places Worldwide. They really aren't saying anything about their coverage in the US. It's no secret that Verizon has the best coverage areas in the US. However, if you take your Verizon phone abroad, it will most likely be useless (unless it has dual CDMA and GSM chips). Your iPhone will work in most countries.

Well I am glad that the phone will work in other countries......oh wait......I live in this country and I would like to make a call 2 miles from interstate 70. Maybe I should move to Germany and move 2 miles away from the autobaun and then I will be able to talk on my phone and maybe use a little bit of the Internet I am paying AT&T extra money each money for. Not trying to be sarcastic, just honest.

Well in that case, you might want to switch to Verizon then (if AT&T service in your area sucks).
