It's so simple a cave man can do it! But if you insist...

Can't comment on the redsn0w jailbreak. But the purplera1n tool just a simple click and it was done within a few mins.

I haven't heard too many horror stories yet about purplera1n.

No problems with Purplera1n at all. I jailbroke my 3G with RedSn0w and it went just fine.

It's faster than QuickPWN and very easy to use.

Most elegant jailbreak since Ziphone 2.5c .... the last one I used. :)
No lag yet. As many of you know, that's really my main concern.

I think the iPhone 3GS is going to be fast enough the lag isn't going to affect it at all. My old 3G is jailbroke with RedSn0w and its lagging down a bit, without winterboard. I've done way more on the GS with no problems.

Well I had an issue with Purplerain. It jail broke great, but when I installed Tricker3G, I could no longer access the App store, the iTunes store or Slingplayer. Did anyone figure out how to fix this yet? Whenever I tried to open those programs, it would open for a second and then close. My sole purpose for jailbreaking right now is for 3G slingplayer so I can't use it for now. It seems that uninstalling Tricker3G fixes it, but then that defeats my purpose for doing it. Boo :(

There is still no update for Tricker3G yet. I know many have been waiting for it.

Install Cydelete in Cydia. Go into Settings and turn on Non Cydia Deletion in Cydelete settings.

Just to confirm, i dont want to delete Cydia, just the app purplera1n instals on your springboard that lets you instal cydia.... will this do that?

You are correct. Cydelete lets you delete any Cydia or non cydia app without having to go into the app to uninstall it. works the same way you delete AppStore apps from the springboard.

I contacted the developer about a week ago and inclusive today in regards to the application (http://www.modmyi.com/cydia/package.php?id=8743#) and his response was "that's the way the world works :P" so I'm guessing he isn't?????

Serious? Well, at least now you know you know a less drastic way to remove it (CyDelete-with Cydelete settings adjusted to allow non Cydia installed app deletion) ;)

I have a big problem. After removing winterboard, my Iphone needed to reboot. Got to the white apple boot screen, and the screen went off, saw the apple screen again, then off... stuck in this cycle. I have had to force the phone into recovery mode and restore... arghhh. Any ideas? Im thinking it has something to do with winterboard? Since im not going to use themes anyway, do you think it would be safe to JB install open SSH and SBS settings and then leave it at that?

I wouldn't see why not.

IIRC, that kind of sounds like the endless crash loop Naps had after trying to install Rotation Inhibitor.
Restore and ReJB should fix it.
