New Mobile Me Account

Ok guys, after spouting off about mini me, I mean Mobile Me, its time to subscribe.

So...

I bought a subscription on eBay and am awaiting a code. Currently I'm using a trial, of which, I don't want to use the name as my primary address. I'd like to keep it as a secondary address (alias).

I figure that to accomplish this, I need to delete the current trial. Then start signup fresh with my new name, using the code. Once that is done, I can then use my trail address as a secondary address (alias) to my new account.

Am I on the right track? Will I be able to get the address that I'm using now during a trial with the method described?

I do believe that what you are saying is achievable, however, it may take 24 hours for the mobileme servers to propagate that you've deleted the email and added it again.

I don't think you can add the alias that quickly. I think MM keeps your data around for a few weeks. They also may not let you add an alias that was once an account. I just tried to add an old account of mine as an alias and it didn't work.

I spoke with Apple Support.

Its possible to use the trial email account as a secondary address to the new account. Once the new account is setup, I need to call Apple and they will delete the old account and immediately return that name to the available pool. With that done, I claim it right away.

Should be all set.

I know you can use the trial account as a sub account on a family pack. The info about contacting Apple to put it back in the pool for use as an alias is good news. I may use that for an family pack sub account I killed off last week.

I called back after creating my new full account. What I was told earlier is incorrect. The trial account name is gone for about 6 months before it becomes available.

Like Quake97 said, I would need a family account. Too bad that I could not have spoken with Quake97 this morning, as he seems to know more in this particular case than the support person I chatted with.

Looks like I lost the name I wanted to use as an alias unless I buy a family pack. Not happy.

Erm.... they could issue a compensation for being told incorrect information. Push for one.

Yeah, maybe they can give you a family pack for free. I always try to use support chat so I have a record of what someone told me. If you had that, you could go back to them and complain and have a record of the incorrect information. Sorry you got duped.
