I know my new iPhone will not have the 3.0 upgrade when it arrives. Is it advisable to upgrade the phone as soon as I get it? I have heard of problems with some apps not working, or the phone not working properly after the upgrade. Should I wait until more apps are functional with this upgrade?

I recommend running the latest Apple Firmware, as you'll have the most up to date options and the best app compatibility.

Why do you think it won't have 3.0, are you buying used from eBay?
Are you going to be using AT&T?

Thanks, Europa. I live in Canada, and use Rogers. It was time to upgrade my phone, and they had a deal on the iPhone 3G for $99CAD, so I bought it. I was told, however, that the phone, while new, does not not have the latest upgrade installed.

The question is, is it factory unlocked or software unlocked? Judging by what you've said, I'm pretty sure it's a software unlocked from the US. If it's factory unlocked, you're always safe to upgrade as the factory unlocked phones cannot become locked. Factory unlocked phones cost a little more, but they are well worth it. If it's software unlocked, you will need to restore to factory settings and upgrade to 3.0, then jailbreak and unlock with ultrasn0w.

I think that Rogers in Canada is the authorized iPhone carrier. If it doesn't have v3.0 I think it is wise to upgrade. And the kicker is, I bet she will have MMS as soon as she instals v3.0, unlike us in the US.

Of course you should upgrade...that's why they call it an UPgrade. 3.0 has quite a few features that the older software does not. I personally have not had any problems whatsoever with the newer firmware. You want landscape keyboards, you want copy and paste, you want mms, you want sms forwarding, you want stereo bluetooth??? Among many many other improvements, I'd say upgrade immediately!! That's just me though... :tounge:
