MMS Coming soon from AT&T?

Ok I know that ppl say don't trust the Sales Reps at AT&T stores, but the other day I went in there with my Fiance to get her a phone. I started chatting with the Lady who sold my Iphone back in Sept, And I asked her when Is the mms going to be enabled on the iphones from AT&T? She said that they got a memo saying that there will be an Itunes update in July, This was on June 24th or 25. Then I see that on the 30st Apple releases the 3.1 beta with mms enabled in the beta. And it gets me thinking.....Was a rep right for once? When she told me that I was thinking Yea right what ever,yall are never right...... But it seems to make sense..... test the beta work out the bugs release mid to end of july, which is technically summer in AT&T's eyes, and they said out in summer?


Sorry for the ramble, but I had been thinking about that for a few days, what do yall think?

I think you're just as excited about it as everyone else, I am enthused by your glimmer of hope. It would be great if they gave it to us sooner than later, but who knows?

no not excited, just think for once they were actually right..... It just makes sense, why would Apple release another update, after 3.0 so soon, that did not have mms on it now they have it on the 3.1?????

It makes sense, especially if they have the camera icon in the messages app. There would be so many people trying to use it and if they couldnt send a mms message ATT and Apple would be getting so many calls and we would get flooded with threads.

Didn't Apple say at the June conference that AT&T should have it available by the end of July?...or was it the end of summer?

It was the end of summer that they said. But there have been alot of rumors saying end of July, and yes I think that if apple sent out an update that included all neccesary icons for mms, then AT&T will be ready at that time too. I'm sure AT&T knows when it's gonna happen, as does apple. They are just keeping it quiet incase of any "problems" they might run into along they way that could delay the target date.

I figured they (AT&T) would just release an updated carrier file once MMS was active/capable on the AT&T servers...to prevent the customer service calls asking why their MMS isn't working. -lol

Called AT&T to change up my plan a bit, and asked her about MMS, and she said sometime in July. She didn't know much more than me.

yeah, you dont need a whole update for MMS. on 3.0, with the 5.0 Ipcc file, MMS works. all that is necessary is that carrier update. from what i have heard from the beta'ers is that it is just some bug fixes....no mms

I think there were enough features and bugs for apple to have 3.1 ready for later this summer so they just threw the carrier update in with it. I was told by an at&t rep that apple included everything to make mms work so that it was all up to at&t. They just hid the buttons in 3.0 for at&t customers for reasons like a few people said, if they were there iphone 3G and 3GS users would be calling at&t and coming around here asking why their mms isn't working. We even have people come around now and then asking why the camera icon isn't there. Depending on the bugs in 3.1 (I don't see many) I think it will definitely be in mid to late july. This isn't like going from 2.2.1 to 3.0 where there were lots of bugs.

In 3.1 beta the carrier file is 4.2 up from 4.0 that was in 3.0's final release. And the icons and options are there in 3.1 beta 1. It has always been up to the carriers to get it working since apple included all the provisioning and settings on the phone's end to have it working.

^ yeah that makes sense. there were few sadder days then when i finally got MMS working about a month ago and after a day, my phone bricked and it brought me back to 4.0 :(

Yeah the rep I talked to said that with the 3GS it is a lot harder to get working since they were all correctly provisioned when they were activated and they will not provision us like they did back in the 3.0 beta days cause it would mess up the correct provisioning. They could flip the switch for the 3GS users but want everyone to be able to use it at once, which is very stupid of them. I think the 3GS should have had the icons and been able to use it since release so that every 3G and 3GS aren't sending mms's at once.The carrier file doesn't do anything on at&t's end all it does is let the icon show up on 3.0 because on the betas I was able to send on the stock carrier file.

Im on the 3GS and i have the family texting plan, currently running beta 3.1 and I can send MMS

I still believe it'll be a carrier update.
It would be so stupid to make you upgrade your WHOLE firmware, and if you do that would suck.
The camera icon is there, its' just hidden, and i think a carrier update would unhide it

The firmware upgrade is from apple but they are including the carrier update in it. If at&t was ready tomorrow for mms then the 4.2 carrier update would be release through iTunes, but they won't be and since at&t is expecting to be ready for later this summer and apple is preparing an update of their own for new features and bugs then they will be releasing both at the same time when at&t is ready. Apple probably knows when they want the update to be released and at&t knows when mms should be ready so they will probably release it in one update rather than a carrier followed by a software or vice versa. Apple will want it to be all in one and easy and not require you to be connecting to itunes for an update a few days after the other update. Apple or at&t can wait on the other if necessary.
