3.1 Beta Bugs

I loaded the beta this morning and I've noticed a couple of bugs.

1) When adding a mobile me mail account once you tell it which options to sync it sits there and spins at "configuring sync options" I deleted this account and attempted to set it up again and while it was "configuring sync opions" the screen flickered between the appropriate screen and the apple logo. In both instances the account appears to have been set up properly.

2) Mobileme push mail has slowed up again (similar to how it was in the 3.0 beta)

3) mobileme accounts are spontaneously transformed to .mac accounts. This is not specific to 3.1, happened in all the 3.0 betas and the official 3.0, but it hasn't been fixed wither. It's a pita to try and send an email only to learn you have to delete and set up your .me account cause it wants to send from smtp.mac.com and can't.

4) Inconsistant battery life (Decent battery life yesterday, today it's dropping pretty quick)

5) poor wifi reception and wifi drop outs. (this has been going on since 3.0, although I never had it drop my home wifi connection in the house until 3.1)

That's all I've noticed so far.

me and i think 2white2fight had the ipod crash after updateing, a resync of your music will fix the problem

Same reason we screwed around with the 3.0 beta, cause we can't help ourselves.

Another one I found, will try to reproduce it later, although I couldn't tell you if it would have done this before, hadn't watched a video on the 3GS before.

Shutter, I am getting that bug also. I would have never noticed it if you didn't mention it cause I haven't watched a video on my 3GS yet and probably wouldn't have.

well i guess i dont know were to look lol i have limewire for music, but i dono if i would try movies from there lol but i just put a few movies on my hpone, watched it for a min. and i to had the side bar problem,

yea the ipod crashed and then ^^^ that solved it

I have just reported all these bugs. In addition I reported

1) Inconsistant battery life
2) poor wifi reception and wifi drop outs. (this has been going on since 3.0, although I never had it drop my home wifi connection in the house until 3.1)

Definitely inconsistent poor battery life.
I think on 3.0 I finally had the best performance out of wifi. And even better with my 3GS, actually perfect performance with the 3GS. Even on 3.1 it is amazing. On 2.x I could never stay connected and I finally do now.

See, I'm the opposite, had great wifi reception on 2.2.1 and the 30 betas, but the official put it in the toilet.

That's what I was thinking, but I actually think there must have been something wrong with my 3G's wifi cause I could never stay connected so I just gave up on it. I would try to update an app over 10MB and it would take like 2 hours of disconnecting and reconnecting just to download it. But none of the 2.x's or 3.0's fixed it, maybe slightly better but never fixed it. My 3GS is perfect and never disconnects, so maybe my 3G problem was just hardware.

Makes you wonder if there was a slight hardware change during production, and that is why some people are opposite in their problems to others.

not sure if this has to do with 3.1 or not but its a bug. i had just sent a text and the bar at the top that shows u, it almost done sending and i fliped my silent switch and it restarted my phone to the apple logo. and it seemed like a longer start up

I just tried it and I couldn't reproduce it. Are you saying if you flip the silent switch before the text completes sending...it will restart your phone?

Could be a fluke...can you make it do it again?

I'm not sure if I could do it again, but it only happended once and I'm not sure if it has to do with the beta, or what reall caused my phone to restart when I hit the silent switch.

I agree with Chrismmm 100%. I'm dying to get 3.1 and hope it will address some of the bugs. But why screw with 3.1 beta? I know how crazed we all are for the next slightly new update, but in this case, logic dictates waithing for 3.1 final.

sometimes when i send text, it the sending bar will almost make it and then it will just stop and sit there. I hard reset my phone and fixed it but that must get annoying after while to do like on 3.0 betas

Anyone notice problems connecting to the cellular data network? Every so often my 3GS won't connect over Edge or 3G, I have to restart each time to get it back working. Worked fine on 3.0, just started since I upgraded to the 3.1

If anyone is in need, I figured out how to downgrade from 3.1 to 3.0. Shift-update to the 3.0, let iTunes do its thing, then I used the QuickPWN from Beta 4 (all I had on the computer) and it kicked it out of DFU mode. I think its only going to work if you get one of the 10## errors though. I got 1015 and it worked perfect. Tried it on a 3G and a 3GS.

on my car , when I plug it , the "accessories connected" window blink and my car is unable to access to the music

the podcast are not any more sort by "date" order but by alphabetic order instead ... and it's a mess with European dates : DD/MM/YYYY ...

Yeah me too. It's a known bug and on the dev site there is a thread of other people who have the problem. That's just proof of why they release beta versions to devs so they can test and fix their apps if need be. I wouldn't be surprised if you see an update withing a week or two.

When looking into the the Contacts, that you select a contact, and lets say from the contact list you want to text them, it doesnt carry over their full# just the area code.

I'm seeing that one too but it only seems to happen if you are texting someone new. If the person's number is already in your list of Messages, it works fine.

Yes Dcom, you are right. if the contact is already in your text messaging list then the number will carry over, but if your going to text that person and they are not in your text messaging list then only the area code carry's over.

+1 for the new text area code. I was able to get the WiFi dropouts to stop by manually entering the WiFi network on the iPhone. Settings>WiFi>Other Enter your router SSID and chose your security (if any) and enter password. Dopouts were happening everytime I press the sleep/wake button. When I unlocked my phone, I would have to go to wifi and connect again. Now it automatically connects and hasn't dropped out since.

Not sure if this is a 3.1 bug or not but did a search in Maps on my 3G phone for business and when it was found, tapped the > to go to the info view, which had address, phone, website, etc... filled in.

Tapped Add To Contacts and selected As a New Contact. Contact screen came up, also with info filled in, tapped Done. Went to Contacts and new entry was listed with the correct business name at the top of the list under '#' but when I tapped the name to bring up the info, nothing but the name was in the entry.

Was able to get it to work correctly with a 3.0 3G phone.

I did on 3.12, no more now that I'm back on 3.0, signal still isn't as strong as it was on 2.2.1...but it doesn't drop out as bad.

I haven't had problems like that. My WiFi has been solid even coming out of sleep or entering the range of my home network from being on 3G all day.

Mine (wifi) is consistantly weaker on 3.0, but my 3G signal strength is MUCH better- especially in areas that I couldn't even reach the 3G network before.

My wifi and 3G have been great on 3.0 and 3.1 with my 3GS. I think my 3G signal has always been amazing on both the 3G and 3GS so I don't see as much of a difference with that. Although my wifi experience was terrible on my 3G(even on 3.0), so I think it was a hardware issue. I hope I can keep my wifi as perfect as it is now because the entire time I owned my 3G I had the wifi problem and I should have got it replaced but it just didn't bother me that much since I was on 3G most of the time. I hope they can get the wifi working again for everyone who has lost it.

Just installed Beta 2 and this problem seems to be fixed.

Kind of a major bug in beta 2. Bear with me cause it's a little tough to explain. I was playing music with aol radio and the phone went to sleep. When I woke it up all the apps in the black area almost reacted like minimizing in OS X down to the dock but went behind the dock and when I tried to take a screenshot of it to show you guys but it just locked and once it was unlocked after 2 -3 times the apps were then not visible at all. Then after I locked and unlocked a few more times they were spaced out so much that the bottom row wasn't visible and in spotlight the search bar was too high but visible. I opened apps and they were fine and seemed to appear like normal. So I did a hard reset which took a while to boot up and it is fine now but definitely something I don't want to keep dealing with. I will be reporting this and every other dev should especially if they experience it.

im on beta 2, and none of my texts seem to be sending. my phone says they send but people arnt getting them, i even tryed to text my mom with her phone right next to me 3 times and her phone didnt get them text, so i can i fix this ?? its only been since im on beta 2. i need help FAST !!!! lol
