Hey--

Many of you know that I'm an AIM junkie. I have the free AIM app on my 3g....and push works great. It makes the app so much more functional.

But anyway, when I get a push IM, it can take up to 5 minutes for the app to load and then for me to be able to start typing....

Has anybody else noticed this? Is this because of the 3g or the app? Like will beejive, or even the paid version of AIM, not have this lag or is this lag just because I have a slower phone?

Please let me know what you think....but if you have a 3gs and you're saying you dont have this issue, please remember that could be because your phone is faster.

Well, any firmware is gonna have bugs, but that doesn't really help with what I want to know.

I want to know if I should buy one of the paid apps or if I will still have the same problem.

Karen, I can tell you thar Beejive responds quickly but it could be because of my 3G S. Never tried it on my 3G sorry.

I read reviews on the app store and it seems the lag is a big issue....with everyone, not just me.

As for beejive, I read those reviews too and they werent much better. I think I'll just stick it out for now and see how the update is. I also know palringo is gonna be releasing an update soon.

Im using 3G and free AIM. It starts up pretty fast when it auto starts when I get a push message. I would say its starts up in like 3secs not ever longer than 5 seconds tho. And a few more seconds for the message to come in after AIM starts. The only thing i have trouble with is there is a lot of keyboard lag when im typing, especially when im typing at the same time a message is coming in.

Try deleting AIM, reinstalling, and restarting iphone.

That's when I get the lag too....if I have a lot of push messages coming through and i cant type if a new message is coming in. I have a feeling it's just the way it is for right now. :(

I have a 16GB 3G and it doesn't take 5 minutes to load after a push notification. It's not instant either - there is some lag.

You might want to try eBuddy (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=320087242&mt=8). It's free (although you have to register) and it's more responsive than AIM. It supports push and other IM platforms.

Will ebuddy keep me signed on for 24 hours like AIM does?

That's another downside. The app lets you only stay logged in for up to 30 minutes after you log out.

I use the 24 hour thing on AIM as well. I'm going to try eBuddy exclusively for now and see how that works.

Im pretty sure its an issue on AIM's part. The keyboard lag was not really an issue for me when I upgraded to 3.0 while using the previous AIM without push. As soon as I upgraded to the the AIM version with push, thats when I had the keyboard lag. I guess we just have to leave a comment in the AIM app store and wait and and hope they updated really soon.

I'm using free AIM on the V1 with push notifications on. Its not as fast as some other apps because everytime it opens you have to do the "signing in" thingy but it definitely doesn't take 5 minutes to open. I would try deleting and downloading/installing again. There must be something seriously wrong with your app.
