Ive been searching and reading post after post and Ive read all the posts my little brain can handle. So far Ive gathered a couple of things....

1. To get the most money, unlock and jailbreak the phone - DONE
2. Set up a short auction, like a 1 day, so it stays towards the top of the search results page - not yet done, going to do
3. Offer international shipping so people in the UK and others will be involved in the bidding - huh????

So my question/concern is this. I dont sell to much on ebay, so Im curious how people like me offer international shipping? I went to the UPS store and they told me to ship over seas its going to cost anywhere from 100 bucks and up. Is this something I set up within the auction? So the buyer has to pay? Or how is this handled?

Any other tips or tricks to help get my 3Gs paid for?!!! Thanks

The buyer pays shipping unless you specify that you'll pay.

Can I offer something like free domestic shipping but buyer pays if international? International scares me, but if I can get an extra 100 out of it, Im willing to be scared!!

Offering international shipping is going to attract a ton more scammers that US only. I personally would not do this. Offer free US shipping and leave it at that. There are plenty of people here wanting the phone. You will still get a good price. Unlocked, I would say you can plan on around $350.

Good advice. I keep hearing about scams and crap like that. So good warning. Its just seems as though the phones that offer int shipping pull in a little more buck. But I would rather make 300 than get scammed!

I put my 8gb 3G up for a week and it sold on the last day. I did a buy it now for $300 and $15 shipping. I also put it up on craigslist and I probably got more emails and calls about that than the one on Ebay. I was not upgrade eligible, but figured I'd pay $100 for a 3gs so I tried it and it went fine. Good luck. Best part was that when I wen tot the apple store to get the 3gs I waited in line about 20 minutes the other day and then it took all of 10 minutes to get the new one. and it works like a charm. Not a bad deal and I am real happy with it. Good luck.

Watch that auction like a hawk. I would cancel anyone who bids on it with 4 or less feedbacks, esp if they are 1 or 0 feedbacks. Those are usually your scammers. Usually. '

I hate selling on eBay. Won't do it anymore because of too many bad experiences.

Yeah I havent even gotten any views yet. I dont have a good feeling but as others have said, the action will happen within the last few hours.

I just wish I could set up a Buy It Now but apparently my ebay status wont allow that!

Can you yank the auction if there are no bids on it?

And yeah, none of the action happens until the very end.

I think you can, but it effects your rating anf you have to pay the fees still.

So I mentioned this in another thread but I ended up selling the unlocked iPhone for $335. That paid for my 3Gs so I am pleased as punch!

Thanks to all for the suggestions and advice.

...and you still had to pay the eBay fee?

Man, you guys are killing resale values. $315 unlocked?! I hope it was 8GB. I sold my 16GB for $400 locked on Craigslist. Cash. No fees. If I can sell on CL, that's my preferred method, because it's cash and fee free.

Glad you're happy though, you got what you wanted.

I was hoping for more of course. But what can you do, ya know? Im just happy I got enough to pay for my 3Gs.

Maybe I didnt advertise it good enough. Who knows.

I think once you list it, no matter what happens, you are paying those seller fees. I could be wrong though, I dont sell a lot on ebay.

there's an insertion fee, and a final fee if the auction goes through. The insertion fees are nominal (usually less than a dollar unless you get a lot of bells and whistles). It's the final fee that's the most... usually a percentage of the final cost. So if the auction falls through, you're encouraged to re-list it because the insertion fee isn't too much.

and then they hit you with paypal fees too.

I know that paypal is 3%...

Was it 8GB?

Nope, 16gb. Unfortunately due to my lack of ever listing anything on ebay I couldnt set up a BIN item. I probably wouldve made more if I were able to set a BIN price.

Hmm $400 for locked 3G. I still have mine. I am torn between keeping and selling. If something should happen to my 3GS (my fault) and apple didn't replace it, there is no way I could pony up another few hundred bucks for a new phone. This is really why I am holding on to it. Pristine condition.

I just got 385 for a unlocked and JB'd 16GB 3G on 3.0 OS and paypal took 13 bucks in fees and thats not including ebay's fees.... yeah, I think I'm done with ebay.... Oh yeah, someone from India tried to scam me on my wife's v1, so now that phone is locked in limbo until I wait the 7 required days to start the "non-payment" process... ebay sucks!

I've heard that Paypal fee is completely dependent on the source of the money from the buyer. If they are paying you with Paypal but don't have funds in the Paypal account, Paypal takes the money from their credit card, and you get that fee. If they are paying with Paypal and have money in the Paypal account, there's no fee for you. Kinda sucks.

...yeah i got scammed too. The guy is in Wisconsin (Indian name though) and he seemed like he wanted to buy but couldn't figure out how. Now my phone is sitting in limbo as well. I get to close the claim tomorrow, but I notice prices have gone down and my auction closed at $375 for a 8g, unlocked, jailbroken, 3.0, and some clearly disclosed (and pictured) scratches on the back. So now I'll probably get less for the phone. I hate eBay now and this was my first sale. (Made plenty of purchases though)

Thats such a load of BS on their part. The fee should be on the buyer w/out the money in their paypal account.... So with paypal's cut, shipping and what ebay is taking, it looks like I am just breaking even...

I'm done with this ebay crap. Next year I'll sell the 3GS cheaper to a friend and at least that way, the hit I'm taking on the price of the phone won't sting as much.

My paypal fee ended up being 10 bucks. Not horrible. But overall I enjoyed the ebay/paypal selling experience. I wouldve loved more money but something is better than nothing IMO.

Craigslist all the way for me.

I just sold my Wife's and my White iPhone 3G 16GB on Craigslist this weekend to finance our 3GS purchase.

I got $380 for one and $400 for the other. Both were jailbroken & unlocked.

I'm just curious:

Did you test the iPhones' unlock before you sold it? I'm asking for my own personal edification, not to be a smart ass. :dft010:smiling

i disagree, i was scammed by a member who had 428 feedback and had been with ebay for 5 years, you can never tell these days as they hijack others accounts ( i know , been a victim ...... twice ), if you get any last minute bids from 0 feedback i would get rid, but just sold a nokia 5800 last night to a 0 feedback and everything 100% a ok, paid straight away..........everyone has to start at 0 , regards

Just sold my 3g (not jailbroken or unlocked) 16gb for $375 on ebay. I tried selling on craigslist but got too many scammers emailing me all weekend and several weirdo's. I just liked the ebay process better. And yes paypal took about $10 but I only paid $299 for the phone. So I just about broke even on a year old phone.

Hi,

Yeah I tested it first with a co-workers T-Mobile SIM and then the buyer's SIM. I setup their data plan settings right in front of them, and tested making and receiving calls, SMS's, Safari, etc.

P.S. Ultrasn0w seems to work awesome on the 3 iPhone 3G's I've used it on. I like it better than Redsn0w Boot Nueter unlock on the 2G's. More reliable signal it seems.
