Hi,

I need my iPhone replaced yet again (the ringer on/off switch doesn't function properly). Instead of me driving an hour to my nearest Apple store, I chose an exchange through the mail. They said I should receive my new device 3-5 business days once I mail it out. The gentleman on the phone said most people receive their device in 3 business days.

My question is, for those who have gone this route, what was your turn around time? If most people are closer to the 5 day range, I might as well make the drive to the Apple store...

Thanks for any help.

I called them on a Wed. night and they overnighted me a new iphone. It got here Friday morning, I had to send my old phone back in the same packaging through Fed Ex.

I had a friend who bought a refurb MacBook Pro and had the HD crash 3 weeks later. He shipped it to Apple on a Monday and had it back on a Wednesday.

Do they do this even for broken vibrate switches?

They just send you a new/refurbished phone when you send it in and then they Fix your phone and some one else gets it.

Speaking from someone who has had more than their fair share of sending iPhones via mail for repair, you're just basically out of luck when mailing it to Apple for repair instead of going to an actual Apple store since they're not actually repairing your brand new phone. They're merely exchanging a brand new phone for a refurbished one. :embarrassed:

That's one advantage of applecare. They give you the advance exchange AND wave the $30 fee for the exchange. I just had to do it, and they sent me the new phone overnight. I used same box, with the pre-paid label etc. and mailed it back to them, and I was good to go.

I did the same thing - I was very surprised by AppleCare. It was Thursday about Noon EST and I had my new phone at 10 AM on Friday. :laugh2:

Quick turnaround. Unfortunately the defective phone I returned to Apple was stolen during transit. They told me they received an empty box and tried to charge me $499. I filed a complaint with Apple and the postmaster general. They ended up dropping the charges. Apple was using DHL at the time.
