Hi everyone,
Anyone had this problem: when attempting to access a wifi network, the phone connects to the network and almost immediately reverts to 3G. This happened when I configured my girlfriend's 3G iPhone to access her work wifi (WPA2 Enterprise). I tried forgetting the network, re-entering the details and reconnecting, but same result. I put the phone into Airplane Mode, and was able to access the network without a problem.
Strangely, a friend of mine, currently in NYC, also with an iPhone 3G using an AT&T Sim, had exactly the same problem while trying to access a public wifi network.
Can anyone shed any light?

Hmmm... That's not a normal problem.
Try this:
Turn 3G off and then try to access the wifi. If it bumps you back to Edge, then there is a problem with your communication board.

BUT- remember that when you attempt to connect to a wiFi network, you have to give it a few seconds or so for the phone to register and access the Wifi. Just because you enabled it, doesn't mean it's instant.

If you are still having the problem, here is my last suggestion before telling you to restore the phone: Go into Settings, General, scroll all the way down to reset and choose reset network settings. when it's done resetting, try again and wait 10-15 seconds after you join the network, for the WiFi indicator to show up.

Thanks for that, Hawk. Yeah, I waited for what seemed like ages initially for the wifi indicator to show; it registered and then went back to 3G; all worked fine in Airplane Mode. Next time I'm in range of that Network, I'll try your suggestions. BTW the phone connects to my home network with no problems.

Maybe the wifi spot has limited connectivity, and it reverts back to 3G!

I'm not sure about limited connectivity - it's a University Wifi network, so while there's a lot of security, the network is pretty much everywhere - I was sitting under one of the routers when I tried to connect!
Thanks anyway.

Are you using Push?
If so, try turning it off to troubleshoot.
I've heard that push on 3.0 is causing this problem. I've noticed once that mine dropped WiFi, and connected to 3G and then immediately reconnect to WiFi.

Makes me think the coding was somehow pointed at the 3G instead of any available connection
