A little history. I am not allowed to bring my personal cell phone into work, so I have to leave it in my car. I live in Florida and we have been experiencing temperatures from 95°F to 98°F with heat indices anywhere from 105°F to 110°F. I put my cell phone in the console box between the drivers and passengers seat, last friday when I came out my phone had a message on it stating iPhone needed to cool down before it could be used. I started wrapping my phone in a large microfiber cloth and that helped all week. I got the same message today.

Anyone have any suggestions? I thought about a small igloo cooler with one of those frozen gel blocks and putting my phone in that, but I'm concerned about condensation and humidity.

That is not good. I think a cool, dry place is in order.
The center console will build up heat. I would suggest something white that is insulated if possible; I'd go with the cooler but with NO ice in it.

Underneath your car seat (So no one can see it), or move here (in Canada)!.

Well do you need your phone during the day? because the most logical answer would be to just leave it at your nice cool house during the day. That is unless you need it during lunch breaks or right after work.

put it underneath the seat or somewhere in the shade. Im in TX and its been that or worse for a few weeks and I never have gotten that message. Just keep it in the shade or get your windows tinted if they are not.

I dont get why you would take it to work just to leave it in the car? Just leave it at home. Failing that, i guess the coolest place would be either under a seat or in the trunk

Heat is damaging, but cold is horrible for a lithium polymer battery.
Here's my question to the OP:
Why can you not just turn on Airplane mode and bring it in with you? I would suspect that the issue is security, and more about the camera function than anything else, but leaving your phone in the car is really not a good option.
Here is the only thing I can think of as a short term solution:
Get a small cooler and one of those ice packs that you can re-freeze and reuse. put the icepack in the bottom of the cooler. put a folded towel over it so there are 2-3 inches of towel. Put your phone in a ziplock baggie that is only partially closed (if you seal it, it could for condensation)and put it ontop of the towel and close the lid. Keep the cooler out of direct sunlight. It should keep the phone in the normal operating temps during the day.

I love when employers try to run your life for you. They are getting real good at telling you what you are and what you are not allowed to do. I just saw an advertisement on TV for a new car cover that is supposed to keep your car cool. It comes with some freebies that are kinda like insulated bags to keep things from getting too hot or too cold. I will link if I find it for you.
Edit: here is a link to the product similar to what I saw on tv. It doesn't come with the bags, but I would bet it would keep your interior cool enough to not overheat your phone. Link here (http://www.capoptop.com/)

There are also coolers that can plug into the cigarette lighter. Not sure how this would affect your car battery to use it everyday. Plus it probably will still have some condensation issues.

I work a good 35 miles from my home, if I am in a wreck or my car were to break down...yes I would need my phone. I often leave work and do not go home immediately.

I definitely need to look into tinting the windows.

See post above. Do you people really leave your phones at home? If you were in my situation would you even consider it? If so...what is the point of having a mobile phone?

I work at a prison, personal cell phones are not allowed to be carried by anyone, except the upper Administration and those have to be logged in and out. Any cell phone is considered escape paraphernailia a smartphone/pda even more so than a dumb phone.
Thank you for the suggestion...I am already employing part of that and have taken steps to block as much direct sunlight as I can from entering the car as well.

Thanks for the suggestion, in this case...I agree with my employer, if they were to allow us to carry our personal cell phones inside the facility, I would not take mine.

I considered this, but my power outlets do not receive power when the car is shut off, so even without considering condensation...this one is a no go.
You would think that they would have a locker or something that you could put personal effects into. I mean, it's common place to carry a phone, and if they aren't allowed because of potential escapes, then they should have a place for you to put them till your shift is over.

Would be nice, but they are cheap. If they make you secure it in your car, your responsible if anything happens to it, if it's in their lockers...they are.
