What was your last cell phone?

For me it was a Motorola Q. Before that it was a Crackberry 7250. Before that it was a Samsung i700 first generation windows smartphone.

So, tell us about your phone addiction. :)

Treo 650
Treo 300I'm not a typical user though.:tounge:

Most recent was the Blackjack, which was a fantastic phone. Once I learned a couple of battery saving tricks (keep it on edge for email, etc., only use 3G when browsing internet), it was the best phone I ever had. Small, light, and with the 3rd party apps...I could make it do anything.

Had the Q before that...Treo 650...iJam...treo 600...countless others.

Still...the iPhone has the most promise of any phone. still need 3rd party apps and some OS tweaks (landscape on demand in all apps, MMS, louder volume, etc.). But there is no competition for internet browsing, the phone part is easier to use than the competition, and the iPod has no peer. The PDA part just needs some improvement.

My most recent was a Motorola Q.

Before that was a Treo 750. And a 700. And a 650. And a 600.

The iPhone is light years ahead of any of those, especially the Treos. I've never used a more unstable product than the Treo. People complain about their iPhone Safari browser occasionally closing, but I'll take that any day over having to pop the back off a Treo and doing a soft reset every hour because it was locked up.

Well, my most recent phone was a Nokia N80. At home, in my tech pile, I still have...

- T-Mobile Dash

My story is actually pretty funny, at school i was known for having the most "ghettoest" phone (in a bad way). but now i can safely say that i went from having the worst cell phone to having the best. anyways i had a samsung SCH A670 which originally looked like this
http://www.mobiledia.com/phones/images/samsung/sch-a670.jpg but after a year and a half i "dropped it" and the flip part broke completely off. but it still worked i just needed to use a headset all the time since the hearing part was on the top flip side that broke off. so my phone no longer rang anymore i had to put it on silent every time i turned it on. i had to memorize the menus just to call someone in my phone book like i had to press 3 buttons then start typing there name then i could call them or just dial a number. you could never see or tell who's calling or if you have missed calls or anything. all my friends actually thought it was cool because of how it still worked and everything after being broken in half lol. and i used this phone like that for about 3-4 months lol. this is what it looked like during those 3-4 months till this day.

Amen to that. I Treo for that.

I have the 700P on Verizon...only reason I still have it is because my boss has one and the program he uses to keep times works on my phone as well since it has the Palm OS.

I'm really thinking about deactivating my Verizon phone ($200+) and getting an iPhone but keep the Treo to keep my times. But I'm looking at close to $1000 in the end and I don't think its worth it at all.

What do you guys think?

Motorola RAZR - Which I absolutely hated from day 1.
Treo 650- which I really liked a lot at first then learned to hate. From the inability to clean the screen, to multiple crashes, to complete data loss, the thing was just terrible. I never upgraded to the 700 cause Sprint would only give me $75 off after 8 years as a customer and i refused to spend $200+ on another Treo.

It's really your choice. You're only putting $500-600 into the iPhone, other than if you're under contract, I don't see where the other $400 is coming from. Though as a Treo user sick of popping the back off as you mentioned, I had an iPhone from Day one and the Treo I use sometimes to play Bejewled or as a go between sync for my PC at work. Other than that, I hate to touch it. I'd say it's very much worth it.

Well on top of the $630 for the phone...I would have to pay another $250 to cancel my service since I want to keep my phone number. We're at $880 now, plus $60 for the iPhone contract and an activation fee if there is one. That's puts me just under $1000 to do this. So this is the dilema I'm in right now.

You can't count the monthly contract price. You would have that at your old provider. And the $250 is not the iphone's fault. That's just SOP for cell providers. I can understand you wanting to wait until after your contract expires though.

i have always been a huge sony ericsson fan, and have had many of their models, my favorites being the k600i, and the s710a. my k600i i only had for like 2-3 weeks before getting tossed into a mud wrestling pit with it in my pocket. needless to say it did not survive. :( my s710a i had for like 2 weeks and decided to attempt to put a new housing on it (bad idea as it is probably the most difficult phone to take apart) i damaged something and lost that phone. i have had the t637 a few times too. recently i have been using the blackjack which is an awesome phone, but not really me. i still have the samsung d807 too which i think im going back to until i can afford iPhone. unfortunately it has a huge crack on the screen from st. patty's day when i had it in my breast pocket and fell face first onto the sidewalk, the phone being crushed between my chest and the edge of the curb! still works fine though haha! jeeze, come to think of it, im dangerous with phones, and maybe should stay away from the iPhone! i'd kill myself if i let something happen to it! i promise i will be extra extra extra extra extra careful with it.

I didn't know this thread was for EVERY phone you've ever owned, but I'll play along.

Audiovox (hard-wired and mounted on a step in a '92 Toyota Camry)
Nokia 5190 - Powertel
Nokia 5165 - Cingular
Nokia 6340i - Cingular (very cool GAIT phone for when Cingular was changing to GSM from TDMA
Motorola V3 RAZR - Cingular
Motorola V551 - Cingular
Motorola E1 ROKR - Cingular
Motorola L7 SLVR - Cingular

The RAZR is the one I carried the most for the last two years. The SLVR got passed down to my son and the V551 went to my daughter before she got her V3 RAZR. The ROKR was for when I had time to listen to iTunes.

Last phone was Verizon XV6700. Interestingly it matches up very well with the iPhone feature for feature, even down to the landscape mode (not automatic obviously). But as I mentioned in my blog, using most of the features was a pain in many cases.

On a side note, I just did my umpteenth demo at work and the guy was commenting on just how much simpler and faster everything was to use compared to his Blackberry.

My iPhone does everything those phones could, but much faster by how it's organized with all functions accessible on the homepage. The iphone software is also much faster in general.

The Treo was slow, especially if you installed any programs on the expansion card!

Blackberry Pearl, which I still have to use when I am working in southeast Asia because of the combination of:
1. AT&T's outrageous international roaming rates,
2. the fact that I can't get my iPhone sim unlocked to allow me to use a local prepaid sim card when out of the U.S. Irritating.

Cingular 8125

I had dropped the phone twice, and it did get pretty banged up, little by little some buttons eventually stopped working after the second impact. Hence, I ended up buying an iPhone, I was planning on the 8525 but I thought I should get my money's worth and I definitely did by purchasing the iPhone. :2cool:

What a difference, a way better phone.

Treo 650 was my last (well I still have it, and haven't ported its number yet).

To be fair I got a lot of use out of my Treo during the last two years. And there are things it did--and does--that my iPhone cannot (besides the obvious stuff, I had a TS client, lots of nice REAL games, used as a laptop modem in a pinch, and more).

But I spent a lot of time, and in some cases money, getting that Treo the way I liked it: VolumeCare to improve the horrible volume--without it it was much worse than the iPhone, KeyCaps650 to make the keyboard better, ZLauncher to replace Palm's pathetic app launcher, custom ROM to make better use of its anemic memory, a backup app that kicked off nightly in case of a spontaneous hard reset (burned by that one several times), and more.

So it was kinda hard to give that up. Indeed I defended the Treo over the iPhone for awhile. But now? I must admit it's hard to look at my Treo anymore. And the keyboard that I once claimed was surely 1000x better than anything that could be rendered on-screen is actually a chore to use (especially the number keys).

In the last year, I have had:

Cingular Treo 650
Verizon 700p
Cingular Nokia E61
Cingular Palm 680
Cingular Blackberry Pearl

The Pearl was my favorite, before the iPhone of course. It was a great phone, great batter life, I had lots of 3rd Party apps and it was even starting to get pretty good Apple support from MarkSpace.

But now I have the iPhone and am at least happy for a while. Of course since I have an addiction, i could be switching again soon. Just depends on my mood.

have you noticed how incredibility long the Treo's battery lasts when you have the phone turned off? It is simply incredible the difference it makes. I used mine for an alarm clock for a while and the thing would last weeks compared to a day.

I have never had a cellular telephone before.

I was never in a particular position, or overwhelming situation
of "reason" to have one. And still really don't.
(My main use of the iPhone is its web browsing attributes,
the photo album, the "iPod", and Google Maps.

Really, if it didn't even have a phone on it, I wouldn't miss it.

So, the only phone I had before the release of the iPhone was
the traditional land-line device.

You know, it's kind of funny.

I still don't have a cell phone.

But I've got an iPhone.

18 pages of responses and only me and this person had a KRZR? hmmm

well i had the KRZR before the iphone 1542

and a sony ericsson w300i before that 1543

and a sony ericsson z525a before that 1544

and a sony ericsson z500a before that(ick by the way) 1545

and a sony ericsson t637 before that(first cingular phone) 1546

a Toshiba cmda typed phone before that. so old i can't find a single pic. all of those are within 3 years exactly. i used to get a new phone every six months. like i upgraded from my t637 to the z500a and then a few months later i had ordered two more for my sis and aunt cause they were free. well then AFTER i've already recieved and activated those two phones. i get an email saying that they are sorry but those are out of stock and they will send me the z525a at no additional charge. so i get it in the mail in like a couple of days. lol a free phone that i didn't even order. yeah yeah. ethically i shoulda returned it. but the z500a SUCKED! there's no way i was giving up that better(at the time) phone. then i upgraded one of the other 4 lines and switched sim cards to get the w300i. and then i upgraded another line again and switched for the Krzr. which i LOVED by the way. so stylish and it had a nice quality feel. i miss it. i love flip phones. anyway. iPhone trumps all so naturally i went for it. hopefully it will be the end to my upgrade addiction. like for real people were talking. i think an intervention was in the works.

My e-mail's fine on mine. As for a keyboard, don't really need one because T9 is so easy to use. Could use a bluetooth one I suppose but what's the point?

I've typed plenty e-mails on it although I usually just use MMS if I'm sending a picture with a message.

Mind you, I wouldn't recommend the N95 for the US market although I hear Nokia are making an 8Gb version that is US 3G compatible.

Fair enough - I've never liked T9 and just couldn't see myself doing more than very short messages with it. If you can manage it, that's cool ...
