From TUAW: http://www.tuaw.com/2009/06/15/atandt-to-discontinue-prepaid-iphone-plans/

"AT&T Free MSG: A new software upgrade for iPhone will be available on 6/17. This upgrade may affect your data service. Please visit att.com/iphone or call 800-901-9878 for a representative. If you download the software and are not on an approved iPhone data plan, your data service will be interrupted"

Seems although they can't get MMS activated at launch, they will be able to 'diminish' data for loyal prepaid customers. ARRRGH!

AT&T seems to be getting more evil all the time. I wish T-Mobile offered them some real competition, which I don't think they're capable of doing with their 3G network on such a unique frequency that phones need to be made specifically to work on their network. Sprint and Verizon are out for me since I don't want a CDMA phone that won't work outside of the U.S.

I tend to reserve the word evil for other types of dastardly behavior, but AT&T is certainly exhibiting an abundance of stupid with a heaping helping of caustic customer service attitude. I don't think they are evil, just arrogant and incompetent. But I could be wrong.
