It would have been really ugly if they did, so it's probably assumed, but AT&T made it official that MMS would be free with texting plans:

They've been very verbose with their FAQs these days. I recommend following ATTNews on Twitter if you don't already.

Well, that is pretty clear eh? AT&T will make multimedia messaging (MMS) available at no extra costBut it still riles me that they continue to say 'later this summer'.

I've been reading that it's the manual deletion of that "MMS opt out" option that's taking AT&T so long. Perhaps we can do it individually at the time of activation? I'll certainly be bringing it up...

They've only had about 4 months to work on this, so I can understand the delay.:tounge:

Ya know, I just can't hate on AT&T when it comes to things like this. I hear the hopelessness in their voice when I talk to AT&T folks regarding Apple issues and their cluelessness about everything. Apple simply keeps them in the dark until the last possible minute, just like everyone else. It's a shame, really.

Good news, thanks for finding that Dave.

I should really credit CNET's iPhone Atlas site:

http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19512_7-10264504-233.html

as that's where I saw it first. They post some interesting articles there from time to time that I don't see anywhere else.

Nice find, Dave!

I wonder how this applies to other texting bundles? I have a special texting bundle using discount code TMS4 that gets me 1500 messages for $8.99/month (talked about in this old thread (http://www.everythingicafe.com/forum/at-and-t/code-for-1500-sms-for-8-99-for-premier-members-only-31551.html)). When I had the code applied to my account, the CSR said it was for text messages only. At the time, it didn't matter since the iPhone was incapable of sending MMS messages. But now I wonder if a) the CSR knew what she was talking about to begin with, and b) if AT&T is now adjusting their messaging bundles to include MMS. I'd rather not have to go to the $15 iPhone messaging plan to get the same number of messages...

(Moderator hat on: Perhaps this could go in the AT&T forum instead? ;) )

Doh! You're right, I don't really care if anyone reads it.

Hows about a 2-day redirect as a compromise. http://dancetech.com/forums/images/ok.gif

Well unfortunately they don't include the buttons for mms in last two developer seeds(beta 5 & GM), so unless they add it back in for the release wednesday you will be waiting for a carrier update. Unless you put a hacked ipcc on like I did :tounge:

I called today and they told me it will be ready at the END of summer, so they are working really hard to get it out soon aren't they :laugh2: So add on 2-3 more months on to that 4 months to get mms working.

The other day i had a gal at AT&T check my account and she said that the opt-out had been removed from my account, but I still was unable to MMS even with the .ipcc carrier at v5. It will be the first thing I will try on my 3Gs. And while we're at it, it seems like Apple wants us to write the name of the new iPhone as iPhone 3G S with a space and uppercase letters. I prefer iPhone 3Gs but I'm not Steve Jobs if you didn't notice.

I like 3GS because 3Gs seems like it's plural and 3G S is stupid if you try to search on the Internet.

this is pretty pathetic! So if I want to send pictures and send them via MMS (which is not often) then I will have to carry my Curve around, take a picture with that and put in the SIM card! Thanks AT&T!

how lame is that.... you pay already $30+ for iphone data alone... then they charge the hell out of SMS... $5 for only 200 (which we all text way more than that)... then make $15 for 1500 only... $20 unlimited SMS better come with MMS... another evil little thing by this company we all AT&T.
