external hard drive

Computer is full, purchased external hard drive. I want to move all the music onto the external, and leave the itunes program on the internal. Is this possible? How do I get itunes to re-recognize the transferred music that is now on the external? TIA. (I read your write-up hip, nice job. But i'm still having questions)

copy the whole itunes folder to your hard drive.

then in itunes, open preferences, then the "advanced tab"...

and change the "itunes music folder location" to your external hard drive.

then you should be good.
