does anyone have any ideas about what updating to the new software coming out will do to an unlocked iphone?

From my experience it will lock it again. You would have to get it unlocked and jail broken all over again.

I heard that if you're unlocked already on 2.2 and update to 3.0, it keeps the unlock but you obviously loose the jailbreak. Don't quote me on this.

and unlocked phone will always be unlocked.

When I first got mypre previous iPhone it was unlocked and i was using it on a
tmobile. When I connected it to iTunes and updated it by accident it locked it back to AT&T. So updates will relock and unjailbreak your phone. I do know anyone that updated to 3.0 from 2.2.1 on an unlocked iPhone so I'm not sure what will happen with that but with the other software versions it relocked it.

that's because you have a 3g phone. 1st generation phones are unlocked permantely and will always be unlocked. you lose the jailbreak but it's forever unlocked

Oh I see. I didn't know that. Mine relocking is the reason I switched to AT&T. I wanted to keep my 3g iPhone. Hopefully I will have good service with them.

Once there is a way to unlock my 3Gs i will be switching back to Tmo..
