View Full Version : Quick question, is the iPhone 3G 2.2.1 unlockable?

I have a launch day iPhone 3G using 2.2.1 firmware at the moment. For the life of me, I have yet to find any sites that are claiming the 2.2.1 is unlockable. At least any sites that have a good walk through to help me do it.

I am preparing to sell this on Ebay before the market drops on the 3G, wanting to get the new 3GS, but low on cash. So if this is possible, please pm me or link me to a walkthrough, may it be video or whatever.

Thanks,
Tim

Unfortunately, it's not going to be worth as much as an iPhone with 2.2 on it because there is no software unlock for 2.2.1.

You can use a SIM card unlock, but they cost about $40 and I've heard they don't always work.

You still may be able to software unlock. If you have the 5.08 bootloader, you can.

If you jailbreak and install Fuzzyband from Cydia, it will tell you whether or not you can downgrade your baseband to 2.28.0, which is unlockable with the yell0wsn0w utility.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that.
