I had MMS working on Beta 1 and some have had it on Betas 1-5. A few people even have it on the 3.0 GM release. No one really knows why.

I had it on beta 3, and then when beta 4 came out, I didn't upgrade to that because I didn't need to, beta 3 was perfect for me, then when beta 5 came out they shut down all phones using beta 3, so I was stuck at work all day without a phone, then forced to upgrade to beta 5 and because I reset it up like a new ipod instead of actually upgrading (even though I am under a developers account) I lost my mms and have no clue why att took it away.

Ok this is assuming you are using the official iTunes 8.2 and windows. I think a mac would be similar but don't have one so can't be sure.
1) install GM seed on iPhone.
2) restore from back up or set up as new
3) uninstall official 8.2
4) uninstall apple mobile device support
5) install iTunes 8.2 tha shipped with beta 4
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=87VM6HFC (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=87VM6HFC)
itunessetupwindows.zip
6) move your iTunes library file (itunes.itl) to a different location if it was updated with the official 8.2
7) open iTunes
8) update your ipcc file with this one
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J84S5YPV (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=J84S5YPV)
Update the same way you do the ipsw just change the file type to ipcc and navigate to the file
9) restart your phone and the mms options should be there
10) uninstall beta 4 iTunes 8.2
11) uninstall apple mobile device support
12) reinstall official 8.2 and replace the empty iTunes.itl with the one you moved. You should be good to go, provided your account is provisioned for mms.

If they already had an updated carrier file and the updated rather than restored...no one had to to all that stuff. Now if your with a different carrier than AT&T, than that's another story, and quite possibly something else to brag about.

I updated to 3.0 GM .... but everytime i did the shift+click on check for update button and clicked on the file on my desktoop, towards the end of the update i got an error 13 or something like that and was not able to continue, i had to restore to 2.2.1 and after trying 3 more times and failed i did the shift+"restore" button and it worked..... it never asked me to update the carrier file though, i have 3.0 carrier file 4.0 and no mms.
any ideas?
Oh i thought it was itunes causing the problem so i did the update with itunes 8.2

sorry to be as clueless as I am, but: I had mms on beta 3, then I never updated until apple disabled beta 3 and made me upgrade to beta 5 when I updated the carrier file and lost my mms. So if I install gm and do that list:

Yeah.. i did it too but, messages wont send....
Just searched the AT&T website and the reason i cant send or even recieve the automated MMS notification has to do with mms provisioning under the sms family plan, has to do with some back end issues, so im calling them tomorrow, since the dopey lady i spoke to today thought i was speaking in klingon....

In windows you have to unzip the file and get the .ipcc, in mac you just rename the zip to .ipcc

New to the forum.
I did the instructions detailed in this thread and all was right with the world except that MMS couldn't send and I couldn't receive.
So, I called AT&T and told the lady I wanted the 'MMS opt out' taken off my account. Since I didn't want her to know I was using a pirated copy of 3.0 GM I just told her that I was switching sim cards with a phone that does MMS just for the time that I was at work. She told me initially that there was no such thing as 'MMS opt out'. I told 'a friend' had called in and a CSR told him about and his works fine but mine does not. She also told me that I would have MMS on the iphone next week. (yeah, right) So, I finally talked her into checking my account and she said,"Okay sir, I took off the MMS opt out option on you account." Dang right you did. :)
Now it works perfectly.

Be careful with this; now AT&T has apparently now told their reps that they are not allowed to change iPhone users to ANY other text messaging plans, punishable by "immediate termination." So don't make yourself too, uh... suspicious. :2cool:

A few days ago I changed my IPCC file and have MMS enabled, but it was not working. Last night I took my sim and put it in a different phone, sent a few MMS messages (which worked immediately), then put it back in my iPhone - BAM! 7 or 8 pictures come through that my friend sent me.. I was able to get one out, then they started failing again.
I have unlimited family texting.. i'm assuming since I was able to get those few pics that my settings are right.. and AT&T just saw that I was on an iPhone and blocked me again?
I'd really like to have this feature; it's so basic and we pay $220 a month for cell svc so it's a bit of a joke.

I got the Tethering thing to work. Great work on that dos code we needed, worked like a charm.
I want the MMS photo sharing feature, I didn't understand how we might have to take our sim card out and put into another phone, I am already paying for unlimited text so why would I need to do that? I went and purchase 99cents hookmobile's MMS app on iTunes and it works GREAT but you are limited to 10 messages the first month and only 2 each month after? What kinda fun would that be? LOL Of course you can pay for more if you want... NO I'm in a recession and I do not want to pay MORE!!!
Anyone figured out how to get this new MMS photo sharing feature on my upgraded 3G to 3.0 iphone? Oh and I looked at my carrier version (AT&T) and it only shows 3.0 (7A341) would that mean the upgrade I just did for the software? Or is that what your meaning by carrier version?
Thanks,

3.0 has MMS built in but if you did the 3.0/7A341 update it will hide the features. You have to apply an older carrier file that will show the MMS features, however AT&Ts network still blocks it. The point of swapping sims is to fool the network into thinking you have something other than an iPhone, at which point MMS will work - like it did for me last night; for about 45 seconds. The network seems to catchup quickly and locks it down again.
Which still pisses me off; the phone can do it, obviously AT&Ts network can do it since it worked last night, yet they still deny it.

I found out that my iPhone was set (by ATT ) to a messaging plan that was a regular messaging plan, not an iphone messaging plan.
But if you look at this webpage you will see what one person did to get it working. I just did that on my wifes phone and it does work. Give it about 15 minutes before it rcognizes your other phone... once that happens, its easy to change to the messaging plan.

Well it worked briefly for me and they blocked me - and now putting my sim in a different phone doesn't even work.
I have an unlimited family plan for text so there are no iphone specific messaging plans on our account.. They must have the network blocking lines that are iphone regardless of device type
.. Which really pisses me off beyond belief as between myself and my work AT&T Wireless gets about $3,300 per month from us. What did I do with that T-Mobile sales guys business card?

I haven't tried jailbreaking my phone and going back to the old way of using PDA Net for tethering, I use the work around for the MMS as I stated above. Guess I'll try and be patient until the end of summer when they say they will make MMS available for us. <SIGH> Why would anyone want the new 3G S if they don't have any of these wanted capabilities that so many others can get on other cellphones?
Thank GOD for the landscape mode tho. Certainly helps with the typing, I would always hit the wrong keys! LOL
