So I was all excited for the Tom Tom GPS app. I have been dying for this app. However as I'm sitting here going over things in my head I realize that the Tom Tom might not work with anything pre the 3GS. I'm guess it needs the compass to determine heading so it can map out the route and figure out your heading. I know it can do it while you are driving but I'm wondering if that will be enough.

No I don't think that's the case, they announced that with 3.0 on March 17th. If that had anything to do with new hardware they would have saved it until today to tell us about it. Of course the compass will probably enhance the experience, but any gps only(tom tom, garmin, etc) device does not have a compass in it.

They also demo'd it during the 3.0 presentation today, not during the 3Gs presentation.
