Hey Guys,
I updated my iphone to 3.0 beta 5, since I am part of the iphone devlopers thingy, and I downloaded the iphone 3g 3.0 GM dmg, to my windows pc, and change the file to iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
I have itunes 8.2 and when I shift click to restore to the 3.0 gm file It pops up and says cannot restore because firmware file is not compatible. I am sure I have the iphone 3g firmware since I downloaded it twice.
Anyone else? Any ideas?

Isn't a dmg file for a Mac? :gasp:

You do not change it to ipsw, you have to extract the ipsw from the dmg. I use powerISO to do this.

Whatever you did to change it from a dmg to an ipsw do it again. I used PowerISO and I had to do it again before it allowed it.

thanks shutter!
I thought that I downloaded the beta 5 and changed it from dmg to ipsw, but I did open the dmg on my mac and then save the ipsw to my memory stick.
I was thinking of how you can change the zip to ipsw, my bad. All good now! Thanks guys!
im on the list, but i downgraded.
Do you need to be on the dev. list to install this?

Well since you are on a PC then you had to extract the ipsw from the dmg so whatever you did to extract it do it again. I have used PowerISO to extract every beta.

You sure you got the right ipsw for your device? For each device type there is a different file.

I use 7-Zip to open up the DMG files.

I got the file from my buddy who has the developer's license, I haven't extracted it or modified it.. so I guess maybe he did something wrong then?

What device and what is the file name you are trying to update to.

It's an iPhone 3G, file is iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw
The first one he gave me was iPhone1,2_3.0_7A312g_Restore.ipsw and that one worked fine

That is the right file name. Download the file again to make sure it didn't corrupt in the download, also make sure you are using the latest version of iTunes. Also are your trying to restore, or update?

To be clear iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw is the right one the first one he sent you was beta 5 which is old and expires next week.

possibly try having him log in to his dev account on your computer, then dl the file straight to your comp? if the problem is data corruption, that is... lol

I can confirm that you do not have to be on the dev list to install 3.0 GM. I googled it, got it from megaupload, and put it on my wife's unlisted iphone. I did put the phone in DFU mode first to makedamnsure there wouldnt be any jailbreak stuff remaining and set it up as a new phone. phone activated itself just fine and SMS and regular phone works great.

I tried both restore and update and neither will work.. I got the file straight from my buddy so I don't think I can download it directly from Apple.. guess I will have to try the torrent
