View Full Version : No MMS in the GM seed

shutter13

There are no mms options in the GM seed. 8.2 took away our ability to change the ipcc file. After I finish my restore from back up, I am going to uninstall 8.2, install the first 8.2 prerelease and see if I can install the custom ipcc file. And see if it works, if I can. Will update later.

That will start working once the carrier is ready. there may be a small update activating the MMS in the future.

I figured MMS would not be immediately available with the new firmware update so no surprise there. We have waited this long...oh well.

It's not Apple, AT&T isn't ready, apparently, and so the at&t carrier file does not include mms. Once AT&T supports it, there will be a carrier file update via iTunes.

FWIW, I was able to get it going again. Required me to uninstall current iTunes, resinstall iTunes from beta 4, move my iTunes library file, apply the custom ipcc file and then reinstall current iTunes, move my library file back and now I need to uninstall iTunes, and apple mobile device support and reinstall current iTunes.

This caused me to have to close my browser so I had to start my uploads over, sorry guys. I'll wait for the 3G file to finish before I do it again. I now have an hour long sync ahead of me, and to top it off, my dumb ass forgot to back up before I restored so I restored to a back up that was 2 days old.

Wow what a head ache, lol so did you install the final 3.0 with the current 8.2, or beta 4's 8.2?

shutter13
06-08-2009, 05:04 PM
I installed with the current 8.2 (8.2 official release). Then did all that other garbage. It is a pain but I have mms and it works. It is a pain, but not as bad as it looks, my compter is fairly fast and all of it took about 10-15 minutes (getting the ipcc file installed) got about 5 more minutes worth of uninstalling and reinstalling before I can beging my re-sync and get all my apps, videos and music back on my phone. Just waiting for the 3G file to finish uploading. uninstalling the apple mobile device support is going to require me to close my browser again, so I'm waiting.

You've got to be kidding me! All that crap? How about I just wait until June 17th for them to release the official 3.0. I heard beta 5 will last until then anyway.

shutter13

According to the keynote blog I was reading AT&T has said no mms until later this summer. If you already have the updated carrier file you can try updating, rather than restoring. I just figured if this was the final release...I wanted to make sure all the debug code was off my phone. So I restored. I kinda figured I go through this headache.

What do you mean by moving your itunes library?

The older iTunes cannot read the iTunes.itl file from the newer one, I had to move it to another loaction on my hard drive, for the older version to open. Then I moved it back after re-installing the newer version.

You may be able to update, having previous betas on my phone, I wanted to make sure any random code was off my phone, so I restored. updating should keep your custom ipcc file intact.

I was on carrier file 5.0 before I updated and I still have it. As long as you currently have the ipcc and ONLY update you will retain mms. And my phone is running amazingly fast with just an update, so for now I think that's the way to go.

I seriously do not get why they can't just let us have it now. Obviously it works they just need to give us the options to use it. I am glad I still have it and I continue to send almost 100 mms's a month. AT&T can easily begin mms for the iphone, I can understand they might want to test tethering a little more but mms c'mon AT&T.

Wonderful, apps don't look like they crash when I close them it's back to the nice closing transition all the time. The camera is soo much faster with the shutter time. The phone is all around faster and performing better. I don't have a single complaint.

I would be too, ever since the first beta where I got stuck into itunes restore mode I have been hesitant during every update, but they have all been successful. I wouldn't go by me though since I haven't had updating problems. I would say back it up and try an update since your only other option is to restore

Mine can't update. Never could. It would always error out and I'd end up having to restore it anyway.

But let me ask everyone this... namely shutter13: If I update to the new 3.0 GM with the beta 4 iTunes 8.2, which I still have (never updated beyond it), will I still retain my MMS?

If it will update, yes you should keep the option. If it will even update or restore on that iTunes build. I know it will update the ipcc, I did it. So if it will load the file on your phone, update or restore, you should be fine, if you have to restore the beta 4 iTunes will allow you to update the ipcc file.

i did a full restore, then i downgraded to iTunes beta 4, then update my ipcc, then installed the official itunes, and no i can send/receive mms. From what I hear you can just update, i did a full restore to make sure I got all the debug codes of the phone.

Call at&t and ask them to provision you for mms. Don't be surprised if they turn you away with 'as you know the iphone doesn't support mms at this time, so we cannot do that' or something like that.

I just updated to the GM, I've got the option to turn MMS on, but it doesn't work. What I'd like to know is why when I put my SIM in another phone MMS will work, but when I place it back in the iPhone it works for a day and then stops. I am not so sure I buy this having to remove the opt out option.

Because their system locks you out again. I don't buy that they couldn't have it ready for the final release when 29 other carriers are going to be ready. Unless they will and just don't want to promise in case they don't finish.

Wow I don't know, maybe try putting the sim in a dumb phone trick. I just sent some so it isn't at&t, so they could have just unprovisioned you which shouldn't happen anymore since they are going through the process of provisioning everyone. I am actually wondering if when the new phone comes and with the public update on wednesday if there will be a slightly different version of the OS than the GM seed that will put all the mms options and tethering options back. They just wouldn't work for most people who weren't provisioned, but it would work for us since we were. Hopefully we get yours fixed!!

I actually think the reps in the store can provision you and they would be easier to talk into doing it. Especially since you have a friend there.
