if your phone is registered with a developer, you will just shift/option + click restore or update and navigate to the file, iTunes will do the rest.

I do not know, maybe it will be just fine, might be that you cannot be verifyed and you have a brick.

I tell you what. Try it, PM me your UDID first, and if it doesn't work...post here and I'll register your device, you should be verified then and all should be right with the world. This way we will know for sure.

sure... im assuming my UDID is my serial number to the phone... if not what is it and how do i get it?

click on your serial number in iTunes, it will change to your UDID Select Edit>Copy to copy it to your clipboard. It's 40 characters so I would copy it.

Don't use safari to download it, safari recognizes it as a compressed folder and unpacks it. Use firefox.

You'll need to unzip it. iTunes will only recognize an .ipsw file for updating / restoring to ...

A file with what file extension? Or if it has none, you sure it's not a folder, with a .ipsw file inside?

I did, but the issue was that my mac wanted to unzip EVERYTHING including the .ipsw file. So I stopped it from unzipping the .ipsw and all is well. restoring now.

With the exception of my 2 guinea pigs, I am not currently adding anyone to my list at this time. There are 2 posters in this thread attempting to put the GM seed on their phone without being registered as beta testers, watch their progress to know if you should try.

Look under the app store and itunes. The app store has a minor changes to the menu bar across the bottom and you can now redeem gift cards, etc. and itunes has video, movie, and audiobook downloads.

You would have to have had something done to your phone during the beta period to have mms working and since you are on the final release I doubt you will be able to get it to work.

The only way I could think of possibly getting it to work would be to hunt down the itunes 8.2 prerelease released at the same time as beta 4( I used to have a link but can't find it) Then get an ipcc for at&t which I will try to track down and post it here. Once you have those two connect to itunes and hold shift(option for macs) + update and change the file type to ipcc, find the file (save it to desktop so it's easy to find) and open it. It takes a second or two and then you might get the options unhidden.

That's why you have to have an older itunes 8.2 beta. The first itunes beta still allowed for ipcc files to be added but in the 2nd 8.2 beta they removed it and it is still not there in the final release. You have to have the itunes 8.2 that came out at the same time as beta 4.

If you can it would be better to just put the older itunes beta on another computer since you library won't be compatible with the old itunes and you have to uninstall the regular one to install an older one. So if you can use a computer that you don't have all your itunes stuff on. iTunes betas don't expire like the beta 3.0 OS's did, and it is the only one that still works with the phone and lets you change the ipcc.

You could try, but I think itunes is installed over the whole system so it would be the same on any user.

This is from shutter13 and what he did to get the ipcc on his iphone. I never had to do this so I won't be able to explain it like he did. This is the route you will probably have to take since you have the current itunes on your computer. And before you uninstall make sure you have the itunes beta we are talking about ready to be installed when the current one is uninstalled.
FWIW, I was able to get it going again. Required me to uninstall current iTunes, resinstall iTunes from beta 4, move my iTunes library file, apply the custom ipcc file and then reinstall current iTunes, move my library file back and now I need to uninstall iTunes, and apple mobile device support and reinstall current iTunes.

Ok this is assuming you are using the official iTunes 8.2 and windows. I think a mac would be similar but don't have one so can't be sure.

1) install GM seed on iPhone.
2) assuming you have restored from back up or set up as new or updated and do not have MMS options

I would guess just drag it somewhere, anywhere out of the itunes folder. Desktop would be easiest to find

Agreed, I used the search feature to find *.itl, made note of where they were, moved them to a different folder and then moved them back. All but one (obviously) were back ups, but I did not know if iTunes would use one of the back ups if the main file was gone, so I moved them all.

edited to add, don't copy them, move them. the earlier itunes cannot read the file made by the official iTunes and will not open at all.

If you are on a pc use PowerISO to extract the ipsw from the dmg. Then move the ipsw to your desktop. If you already did that, do it again because it did that to me the first time I extracted it.

Other way around. Safari will unpack it. The file is right, but you should not have had to add the ipsw. I think your mac is making a mess of the file. I just downloaded the file I uploaded to sendspace for you and it's fine. I downloaded it with firefox (windows).

Well I used chrome so I shouldn't be suggesting browsers. But unfortunately you can't have chrome yet on macs :frown: I have never had a problem with the way chrome downloaded my files. Maybe the whole thing is the way the Mac unpacks it not the browser

Good luck, if you have the mms options on beta 5, you don't need to go through all that, just update and you should keep your mms options. I only went through all that cause I am hardheaded and wanted to do a clean install.

The ipsw is zipped up, you will need to unzip it before you install it but you should not need to change any extensions. I do not know what utility you use on a mac to unzip a compressed file.

If it expires...yes you should be able to update to the GM seed. I do not know if the "official" release will show up as an update in iTunes for beta tester or not, I think it will, but I don't know for sure.

If you don't have MMS provisioned or working, forwarding text to multiple people won't work. It's just how the iPhone does forwarding text... by MMS. Weird.

That's because you probably used the iTunes 8.2 that was released publicly and not the one that was released when beta 4 came out. It allowed you to update the IPCC file to unlock the MMS options in 3.0.

Yeah they have other things on their end they need to change if they are willing at this point. You could put the sim into a different phone make some calls, send some texts, and mms's then put it back into the iphone

The 8.2 itunes final release is out it just doesn't allow you to change the ipcc. I doubt at&t will be ready next week for mms because if they thought they were they would have made it known at WWDC. And who knows when they will be ready for tethering.

It was completely gone with Beta 3 and 4 but for some reason Beta 5 was bad for me with texting. It wasn't nearly as bad as Betas 1 and 2 but still quite noticeable.

It was completely gone with Beta 3 and 4 but for some reason Beta 5 was bad for me with texting. It wasn't nearly as bad as Betas 1 and 2 but still quite noticeable.

Now that you mention it I had maybe once or twice where it was a little laggy in beta 5, but nothing terrible. I haven't noticed in the day I have been texting any lagginess.

I PM'd these instructions to someone, your welcome to use them, if they help.

Ok this is assuming you are using the official iTunes 8.2 and windows. I think a mac would be similar but don't have one so can't be sure.

1) install GM seed on iPhone.
2) restore from back up or set up as new
3) uninstall official 8.2
4) uninstall apple mobile device support
5) install iTunes 8.2 tha shipped with beta 4

6) move your iTunes library file (itunes.itl) to a different location if it was updated with the official 8.2
7) open iTunes
8) update your ipcc file with this one

Update the same way you do the ipsw just change the file type to ipcc and navigate to the file
9) restart your phone and the mms options should be there
10) uninstall beta 4 iTunes 8.2
11) uninstall apple mobile device support
12) reinstall official 8.2 and replace the empty iTunes.itl with the one you moved. You should be good to go, provided your account is provisioned for mms.

There was actually 2 of them doing it, I never added their UDID and they updated and used their phones with no problem.

I was able to get my MMS working again with the IPCC file provided, but now my Visual voicemail notifications do not work, plus I am unable to change my voicemail password through the change password option in the settings menu.

Yup! My brother called and left a message right after I updated and it showed up as 1 voicemail notification and I listened to it. All is well. I wonder why yours is faulty?

Just do not get off the phone until you can send a couple successfully. When I was on they reset the network settings on their end then had me do it on the phone.

Under Cellular Data Network the only think filled in is the APM and that is wap.cingular

Same here, I never had to have anything in the fields. They should know what they are doing but like I said just make sure you can send a few before you get off the phone.

Wow that is a change from when they would tell us they can't help. I am looking back into the old threads to see if I can find something else that helped. All I had to do was ask to be provisioned and the guy did everything right because I haven't had a problem since.

Yeah but back in March at&t got into a bad mood and didn't want to help because apple supposedly didn't tell them about mms. I am guessing apple made some threats(as they should have) to at&t to get them to have support for it.

They just screwed you, there is nothing apple can do to access the stuff in at&t's network to get mms working. I could be wrong, maybe things have changed.

You should be able to send an mms. Sometimes it can take a while for it to actually activate for you to be able to use it.

I tried this method with no luck. But I have never been able to send mms with any of the beta releases. I think I lost the camera icon with beta 5 release. After trying with these instructions, I still dont have the camera icon.

Put your sim in a mms capable phone, if you are able to send mms with that phone, then your account is provisioned correctly. If you can't then it's not.

I lost the camera icon in the restore to beta 3.

I just followed Shutter13's directions and the second I did, it reappeared.

Even if you arent correctly provisioned at ATT , you should stil have the camera icon. I'm assuming that you did turn MMS on in the settings screen......

Yeah but the new price is rediculous. I dropped verizon early to come to att for the 3g... only to get screwed out of an upgrade to the 3G s for a resonable price. But it is nice that everyone else will get to have an iphone for 1/3 the price i payed, it will be convienant for them.

i think att is allowing customers to bring back 3g's purchased less then a month ago, so they can buy the new one. i also think they did this last year...
