pic size for contacts

ive had my iphone for a week now & have been putting in pictures for my contacts & was wondering if anyone can tell me what size should the picture be to show the whole thing in the little window.

I know there's two ways to do this. You can do it from the phone, or the other method is to make sure the contact pic is assigned in something like Outlook, and then sync with iTunes. I'm pretty sure the Outlook method works. It's been a while. :)
